✨ What to expect: Super passionate GM with a real-life interest in esotericism, history and philosophy FoundryVTT with well-coordinated modules, animated battlemaps, high quality visuals and banger music Immersive storytelling with strong character story integration Fiendish roleplay, theatre kid mode Weekly sessions (day TBD) Session 0 & 1 free, then €10 per session
🧛♀️ Who I'm looking for: Passionate roleplayers and people willing to learn Weekly commitment Open and mature communicators
🎭 Themes: Gothic horror, drama, moral dilemmas, intrigue, psychology, philosophy, corruption, indomitable human will and hope against despair.
This is a story of horror, drama, temptation, survival, and intrigue. It is about staring into the abyss and deciding whether you will resist its pull, or perhaps be swallowed by it. The game uses a dark fantasy setting as a backdrop to explore themes of morality, depravity, the human condition (or appreciation of the human condition in its absence), salvation, and personal horror. The themes I'll seek to address include retaining the character's sense of self, humanity, and sanity, as well as simply keeping from being crushed by the grim opposition of mortal and supernatural antagonists and, more poignantly, surviving the politics, treachery, and often violent ambitions of other desperate Barovians. This campaign is not about being a superhero. Our characters are story conduits, this is not a game that is designed to be "won." The experience of the story is meant to be interpreted as a journey into the understanding of our own condition. Accept that your choices have consequences, consider your character's thoughts and feelings, and philosophise over your actions during our sessions. Most importantly: your characters are not strangers to this tale. Their lives, pasts and secrets will be woven into the narrative fabric of Barovia. The mists do not draw souls at random: they choose. Each of you has threads that bind you to this land and its dark master, whether you know it yet or not.
Technical Primer We’ll be using FoundryVTT as our main platform. It will handle visuals, maps, dice rolls, tokens, lighting, and character sheets. During Session 0, I’ll walk everyone through how Foundry works, so don’t worry if you’ve never used it before. It’s very intuitive once you get the hang of it. Scheduling: We’ll work together to find a weekly day and time that fits everyone’s schedules. Consistency helps us keep momentum in the story, so please try to commit to our agreed session time whenever possible. If you can’t make a week, just let me know in advance.
Ruleset & character creation:
Both the 2014 Player’s Handbook rules and the 2024 revised class rules are on the table. You’re free to choose whichever version you prefer for your character. You can mix and match if you want. My philosophy is simple: as long as your character fits the tone of a gothic horror setting, we’ll make it work.
You can make your character on DND beyond. I'll import your character sheet into FoundryVTT after.
Please make characters that fit the tone of the setting.
Grey morality is welcomed, but please give your characters reasons to operate together as group. Ergo pure evil characters will not be allowed. You can leave those to me!,
Evil tendencies on a more nuanced character, however, is of course allowed. That's all the fun of exploring morality in this setting.
To help keep the game smooth and fun for everyone, please remember to:
Track your character sheet:,
Keep your stats, spells, abilities, inventory, and especially your gold up to date. If you’re ever unsure about rules or how to manage something mechanically, don’t hesitate to ask me or any other player: we're happy to help.
Engage in the story:
Your characters are the heart of this campaign. Make choices, ask questions, pursue goals, and lean into the mood of the setting. Barovia is shaped as by conflicting wills and desires.
Communicate openly:
Feel free to deliver feedback. If something isn’t fun for you, if a theme hits the wrong note, or if you’d like to explore something differently, let me know. We’ll find compromises together. This is our story, I want everyone to have fun!
Payment:
To deliver an immersive experience, I invest in high-quality visuals, animated battlemaps and premium tools like Forge and Foundry, so a small contribution helps me keep this campaign sustainable. Therefore, participation requires a contribution of €10 per session. Session 0 and Session 1 are free. This gives everyone time to settle in, learn the tools, and see if the campaign is a good fit. Please provide payment during the break every session through PayPal.
I'm very interested in joining this campaign. I'm a big fan of vampire fiction, moral drama and have wanted to try out both Curse of Strahd and some of the 2024 rules. I'd be happy to bay the listed fee as well. My only problem is my somewhat limited availability, is there any indication of what days are likely for the final date?
At this point we have 4/5 players. We have determined that Sunday 19:30 GMT+1 is the only suitable time for us all to make it. Is that at all possible for you?
Luckily, that time works very well for me! It'd be just after lunch on Sunday in my timezone, so no problem at all. are you using any other communication/payment platform like startplaying? Would you need my discord ID?
Step into the mists of Barovia, a land of eternal dread. Face horror, temptation, and intrigue in my gruesome take on the setting.
