I am a veteran dm, looking for four players for a self created module. Looking for one to replace a player who misread the schedule :P. We have not yet started playing, so you won't be missing anything.
Your characters are in purgatory, having been assigned to Corellon Larethian for judgement. You have lived complex, and morally ambiguous lives. Acts of great heroism, and acts of great selfishness have made judgement difficult to render. Do you belong in Celestia, or in the hells. Unable to come to a decision, Corellon has decided to use you to curry favor with other gods. If you succeed in this, you will be granted salvation, if you fail, damnation.
Details about the module are available in a google form that will be linked at the end of this post. I will spend this post trying to describe my Dming style, and the type of players I am looking for.
As a dm, I see dungeons and dragons as a tabletop game where rolling dice and killing monsters are the premier feature. Half of the classes in this game have extra attack as a fifth level feature for a reason. It is the dm's responsibility to create context that makes combat more interesting than standing in front of a creature and using the attack action. This can be done my making combat more complex, via terrain or environmental features like heavy rain obscuring all targets, or story. If you are fighting to save civilization, that is more interesting that fighting just to fight.
Flavorful descriptions of the monsters actions help as well. The enemy casts fireball, vs, The orc mage grabs bat guano and sulfur from his pack and smirks. Lets see how you handle this, puny humans.
I think that roleplaying and combat fit each other like a glove. If your party's fighter action surges and does 100 damage at level 5, that is worth discussing after the battle, and worthy of comment on the next players turn. By way of example.
Grognard, the fighter, uses action surge, hits all five attacks, and down three enemies on the same turn. You go next in combat. Your character might say one of the following, depending on the type of character you are playing.
"Save some for the rest of us"
"I'm glad he's on our side"
"They are just kobolds, relax man."
The game I run uses the 2024 ruleset, but allows content from XGE forward, no homebrew, no UA. Effectively, all official WOTC books, except the 2014 players handbook.
I have a strict interpretation of the rules. This has value because players don't have to guess what their abilities do or get caught totally off-guard by strange interpretations of monster abilities. There are two exceptions/houserules. Players begin each session with one free inspiration. Players die if they are knocked unconscious four times in one adventuring day.
The game is run on foundry vtt, using discord for voice, but no video.
If you are selected, you will get a discord invite, and some further details. If you are the type to want confirmation that you didn't get in, as opposed to assuming after enough time passes, leave a message below and I will dm you a boilerplate message to confirm.
