Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: a few years Location/Timezone: (EDT) Availability: Wed-Fri 6PM (Eastern) to Midnight at the latest. Preferred role: Player Game style: Definitely RP focused. Looking preferably for a flexible campaign, homebrew preferred, but pre-made might work if run in a flexible way. Perfectly happy if the world is not homebrewed. Running a fun (from my perspective and players seem to like it ;) ) homebrew campaign set in Exandria as a DM on Mondays, so something in Greyhawk, or Forgotten Realms would also be good. I'd just prefer it if the actual plot/campaign was custom.
Short version I've played a number of campaigns that were very... "Character impartial". Basically, the characters never felt central to the story. I'd like to find a game and group where the player party actually feels like the protagonists. Like the story is about them; they're not just incidental components.
Not saying campaigns like that can't be fun. I had a good time in the Netherdeep campaign I recently finished, but that was largely because the DM was very good at making it engaging, even though they ran it pretty linearly.
I want a campaign where the characters can delve into things and maybe even have their arcs and personal stories wrapped into the larger narrative.
ill post what i posted for people to see if they want to play, if this fits or feels like somthing you would enjoy hit me up out of the abyss is a fairly good long term campaign thats less on rails and more about you all actualy doing stuff in the underdark like building alliances, and have arks about you all as a group growing to become people known in the underdark
Howdy all! Alittle about me ive been dming for close to 20 years doing all sorta of ttrpgs and had many long term games under my belt and to be frank im gauging interest to see if players are intreseted, im a mostly narratively driven dm who likes to present challenges the players, im not here to kill you or be adversarial but im not going to pull punches if you choose to stand in lava your going to die.
ill ease you into the game and slowly increase the difficulty i will run this sorta like older editions with me encouraging you all to be smart and think of your selves more as mortal people who are exceptional and not super heros.
i would love to have each of you build up characters who can become note worthy and hopfully i can build up archs for you all
Time slot*: THURSDAYS at 6:00pm EST
Whats the game about? Well i have the campaign book out of the abyss, which is for 5E, the campaign will feature things like political intrigue, sleuthing, narrative play, combat, survival and basically you guys going essentially nobody to somebody’s be for good or ill
OUT OF THE ABYSS: there’s not much to explain on this. It’s a campaign set in the under dark you all playing as prisoners of the drow, who then must explore, survive and hopefully thrive in the under dark and the events of out of the abyss.
Overall, out of the abyss is a very flexible campaign setting, the book is more of an outline than a true guide, for anyone who has ever heard of it, for those who havent basically a under dark campaign book going from 1 to 17ish and has some defined events but is pretty loose, player action is very important in it. some things to note one I am not an overly Big into 5e but been itching to run this campaign again so I will only be using the standard PHP 2014 rules may be some extra stuff but that’s a big maybe, so apologize for anyone looking to play there kenku gravity mancer or winged elf half vampire monk, this might not be the campaign for you.
(an exception will be made for some under dark races. Just understand it’s not gonna be just as easy to say oh my drow just happens to be a good guy. You’re gonna need a good reason. and there will be challenges and advantages to playing such a race, and i am willing to make some exceptions for some classes just understand this campaign is ment to be somewhat challenging and i have decided to do some of the house rules for this that will be listed/we agree upon)
The campaign itself will focus 99% of on the under dark however, I would like to tie in some of your guys characters back stories for especially surface stuff this campaign might depending on the players interests, have some surface elements and you all will help me build what slightly the surface world is kind of like as this is not forgotten realms.
if the campaign goes on for a long enough time i might even do some above ground stuff for you all if you want that.
What im looking for:
Players who enjoys role-play, and who enjoys bringing character solutions, not game solutions to a campaign. (game solutions means stuff like the ridculess peasant rail gun i love creative solutions but that shits just stupid XD )
Willing to play only PHB characters only.
Comfortable with role play heavy sessions and inner schemes of the setting and your players choices.
Comfortable with dark themes, the underdark is not a nice places, there are places of harmony and good but they are the flickering candle lights in a vast black abyss of evil, your character might be force to contend with dark things and horrible choices, and the cultures in the underdark are brutal.
is ok playing in a harder campaign, well ive made adjustments to make sure things like weight, food, etc will be easier for you all to track, but in the end you will have to worry about those things proably even past level 13 so yes you im looking at you who wants to play a ranger players you will be helpful in this.
Requirements:
Experience with other TTRPG/DND systems is a plus, but not required.
Age 18+ (this has alot of mature themes, dark subject matter, and fact is in either setting hard choices will be need to be made)
Ability to meet regularly (weekly), should be said i get shit happens if you have to miss a 3 to 4 sessions thats fine life comes first all i ask is you give a heads up
Don't think that's going to fit my tastes/style though. This part is what gives me pause "Comfortable with dark themes, the underdark is not a nice places, there are places of harmony and good but they are the flickering candle lights in a vast black abyss of evil, your character might be force to contend with dark things and horrible choices, and the cultures in the underdark are brutal."
It reminds me of campaigns I've seen DMs describe as "There are no good choices, just picking between the flavor of bad." While I know a lot of people like that sort of thing, because it forces you to really confront the ethical and moral implications of things, its not really the type of game I enjoy.
Best of luck looking though! It sounds like with the right group that will be a really engaging campaign!
Hey KrantosAvieus! Your focus on RP and wanting characters to feel central really shines through. While our 18+ LGBTQAI+ friendly Westmarch-style community isn’t structured around a single fixed campaign (which can make deep background integration more limited), there’s still room for character-driven stories. Some of our DMs weave player choices into their arcs, and over time certain groups naturally form that stick together for longer-running narratives.
All characters start at level 3 with a 35 Point Buy under the 2014 5e ruleset, and we share all official content through D&D Beyond—so you’ll have everything you need at hand without extra costs. Because we’re global, there are sessions running daily (alongside Play by Post and text RP), which often overlap with evening EDT hours.
If you’re looking for a place where you can explore different DMs and playstyles, while still building relationships that might evolve into more campaign-style consistency, check us out here.
