In a small, fertile valley in the northwest of the Cliffkeep Mountains is a small village founded by Tal’Dorei homesteaders just ten years ago. This simple settlement of Reaching Bluff is inhabited by hardy folk seeking new places to mine gold and iron from the earth. Many unpleasant exiles from Kraghammer have joined them, so while this village has a charming, rustic atmosphere, few travelers stay for long. The hostility toward outsiders is palpable to all.
This insular attitude has only grown more hostile following the discovery of a gleaming dodecahedron about the size of a human head. One of the miners who unearthed it found that her pickaxe barely scratched its surface—and when struck, it began emanating a radiant, internal golden glow. This mystical object was returned to the village foredwarf, and before the day was out, all the villagers had learned of it. The people of Reaching Bluff call it the Lost Beacon of Unknown Light, and worship it as a god.
This is a place where if you go, you go for a reason. What reason could your characters possibly have for traveling to such a remote place? Are they on the run and want to get as far away from civilization as possible? Perhaps you are an adventure sent to investigate the sight of giantkin in alarming numbers starting to make movements. Were you sent by the Ashari of Terrah or the other three tribes to investigate this Lost Beacon of Unknown Light? Or perhaps you were sent from another continent all together where the tales of such a beacon sparked interested in a certain Dynasty? whatever the reason, this seemingly insignificant village will be remembered as one of the sparks to light a great fuse. One of many pebbles that will unleash a rumbling. The Rumbling.
Alright, you will be starting at lv 3 and rolling for stats. Your stats must have a combined total of 72 with at least one score being a 15 or higher. You re roll until both requirements are met. 2024 rules will be used but your stats and starting feat wont be determined by your background. You can choose those as you see fit. It is one of the few things about the new rules I don't like. Post application here as mentioned below.
I hope to make a campaign where we can have fun and hopefully become a group for future adventures and junk.

Things you or your character want to do or experience:
Experience in D&D?: I've bene playing for the past five years, both as a DM and as a player. Currently I am DM-ing my own campaign in in my own homebrew setting on Sundays, but I'd love to also be a player and engage with intense immersive roleplaying from that perspective. I am fluent in combat and mechanics regardless of what build I am playing (from both the player and DM perspective), and can play basically anything. I'm also well versed in creating whatever I need to via the DnDBeyond homebrew interfaces as needed. I'm proficient with both 2024 and 2014, though lately I've just been using 2024.
Know anything about Critical Role?: Actually yeah, it was my gateway drug into D&D :). I've watched most of Campaign 1, all of Campaign 2 (my favorite!) and most of Campaign 3, plus all of the LoVM show (looking forward to seasons 4/5, and HYPER excited for the upcoming S1 of Mighty Nein). Matt Mercer's DM-ing style is actually a lot like my own, and the style of campaign he runs is my favorite both as a DM and as a player. The cast of CR are just so gosh darn good at embodying their characters and using them as vehicles for rich storytelling, which is something I aspire to myself.
Good with using Beyond for character creation and possibly maps?: Yeah, I'm a pro at both of these due to my experience as a DM working almost exclusively with DnDBeyond.
Got a good mic and able to speak fluent English? Need to be able to understand you: Yes and yes.
Able to meet at the approximate time posted for 3-4 hours as a general rule?: Yup.
No seriously, can you commit and not just fudge off?: yeah, I hate it when people join a campaign then just ghost. I am totally committed and will work hard to ensure I always attend, barring emergencies.

Token Pic: I have a better one (for both versions of the race), but I can't post them here since it has to be a url, so here is a stand-in:
Name: Elias Netherwind
Race/subrace: Either a regular human or a tiefling (infernal)
Class/subclass: Wizard (enchantment)
Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.):
Elias is a troubled young man, a prodigy who just didn't have the right upbringing to foster his talents in a healthy way. His mother died either when he was young, or during childbirth, and his father was cold and distant ever since, became a depressed alcoholic, and eventually vanished from Elias' life when he was a teenager. Elias grew up in his father's bookstore, helping tend to it as his father's health declined. He read all sorts of fantastical stories about great creatures like dragons, and mighty wizards who were ordinary people except that they had used their minds to accomplish the impossible. He became a bit obsessed with wizards and the arcane, and distaffsfied with his own life. He is a bit ADHD/OCD, and coupled with his relatively isolated childhood (since his father's depression caused isolation which limited Elias' interaction with other people) resulted in him struggling to connect to others.
After his father vanished, a nearly-adult Elias ventured out into the world, filled with ambitions of one day being a heroic wizard like those from the storybooks, except he didn't have a good way to get started. He didn't know anyone of the arcane persuasion, and didn't have any connections to help him get to a school that fosters such talents, so he got creative. He sought out and found a benevolent(ish) hag named Mother Midnight (everything about her was very black/white Rorschach-esque). He made a deal with Mother Midnight: he would sacrifice a year of his lifespan in exchange for the knowledge to get his start as a wizard. He spent an indeterminate amount of time in her chalet, learning some of the basics of magic from the hag (thus his affinity for enchantment magic). Mother Midnight was intrigued by this young man, his curios mind and the nature of the bargain struck (which she considered to be an above-average level of cleverness for a deal made by a mortal). When he exited, his first spellbook in hand (comprised mostly of his notes from his conversation with Mother Midnight), he realized that he was a year older and en entire year had passed in the outside world, despite him never eating or sleeping the whole time he was there (he's not sure how much time he was inside, but it definitely wasn't a year). Nevertheless, he considered the deal to be pure profit on his part. He had his foundation as a wizard sorted out, and now could begin learning more spells. However, he now had access to a somewhat amoral power set (as an enchantment wizard), and due to his upbringing wasn't fully equipped with sufficient morality to have the restraint not to abuse it. Coupled with his difficulty connecting or communicating with others, he would sometimes (ab)use his powers to get others to see his way or do what he wanted when his words failed him. In the years since (he's in his mid 20s now), Elias has wandered the world seeking ways to advance himself further, to become more powerful.
Elias also happens to be gay (a trait from myself that I put in all my characters whenever I get to be a player). If I go with him being a tiefling, then I like the idea that when he was born, both his parents were humans so his father thought he was the result of an affair, but in reality something unforseen happened that caused him to be born that way despite his mother being faithful to his father (e.g. maybe some curse on one of the parents from something long ago, I'd love to leave that up to the GM to keep as a surprise). The tiefling angle would play into him having a chip on his shoulder (the size of Wildemount) about his upbringing/isolation, and feeling a bit unloved/unlovable, while if he was human that would play into his feelings of striving to escape ordinariness. Also, whatever the truth is of Elias' mothers death, and his father vanishing from his life, I leave up to the GM to have fun with.
(Note: I'd be happy to edit/adjust/refine any of the above, in tandem with the GM).
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: His deal with Mother Midnight was basically what brought him from a rando to a level 1 wizard. Since then, he's spent a few years trying to master the spells he has learned, and gradually mastering a few others (many related to reading/influencing the minds of others). He has gotten good at using his gifts to get discounted (or free) meals and lodgings, gain access to libraries to do more research. At one point when he was on the road and accosted by some bandits, he used his powers to get them to fight one another while he made himself scarce. When he was short on funds to fund his magical advancement (e.g. transcribing spells, or material components), he got himself briefly mixed up with a crew and used his powers to aid them in robbing a few homes of some disreputable businessmen (e.g. made guards go away without raising the alarm, detected any magical traps), though his cut was small and he felt slightly guilty afterwards so he didn't continue with the group. He maybe did some other odd jobs on behalf of towns by killing random monsters in the nearby woods that were causing problems, in exchange for a small payout.
Things you or your character want to do or experience: I want this character to be forced to experience growth (either positive or negative) as he develops and figures out who exactly he is and who he wants to become. He has a lot of inner demons to contend with, as well as his own ambitions that threaten to get him into trouble if he overreaches. I want him to experience a bit of power fantasy as he starts getting more powerful, gaining access to bigger spells, and gradually becomes capable of some rather amoral things (like modifying memories) but for him to be influenced by those around him to only (or at least mostly) use those for good. He'd be a bit of a loot-goblin, due to his persuit for magical items (or things he can sell to buy spell scrolls, etc.). He would also be profoundly lonely, so I'd want part of his journey to be about learning how to really connect with others and let them into his heart, ideally with romance included. Part of his journey would be about him recognizing more of the faults in some of his role models from the stories he read when he was young, and finding out how to chart his own path. Another part of his journey would be about tempering his arrogance without dimming his ambition.
Experience in D&D?: I've been playing D&D 5e for over 5 years now, with some experience DM'ing, as well as playing the 5e 2024 ruleset.
Know anything about Critical Role?: I know quite a bit about Critical Role. It's how I got into D&D in the first place! I've watched snippets of Campaign 1, all of Campaign 2, some of Campaign 3, and now diving into Campaign 4! I'm also completely caught up on The Legend of Vox Machina as well!
Good with using Beyond for character creation and possibly maps?: Yes. I use Beyond for all my sheets, although haven't used it for maps so that should be interesting.
Got a good mic and able to speak fluent English? Need to be able to understand you: Yes I do
Able to meet at the approximate time posted for 3-4 hours as a general rule?: Yes I am, as it is my day off.
No seriously, can you commit and not just fudge off?: Yes, I can commit to the campaign unless something absolutely drastic happens that pulls me off for a session.

Name: Corrick
Race/subrace: Wood half-elf
Class/subclass: Battlemaster Fighter
Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.): I have a full blown backstory already put together actually, so I'll do my best to condense the information to only what is necessary so as to not spoil much for other potential players.
Corrick was born as a member amongst the Air Ashari of Zephrah. Although his and his sister's lives' was fairly peaceful, the world around him was not so just. With his mother's sudden passing befalling their family - and the community as a whole - strife took hold of them. Each amongst his family took to great length to lessen the burden on their hearts. For Corrick in particular, it was throwing himself into his studies and honing in on himself as a person that ended up pushing himself to take up the mantle as a Tempest Blade. Their father, however, would take a turn for the worst as he began to obsessively look into their mother's death, which ends up with him leaving the community for his search and ultimately end up disappearing. Such a spark would push Corrick to truly leave his village and embark on a new journey. Whether he was ready or not, only time would tell...
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lvl 3?: He's trained and worked alongside the Tempest Blades and various hunting parties of Zephrah, gradually growing his skills and strengths with the various weapons of his people, as well as delve further into the philosophies and traditions that have bound his people to their peace all these centuries.
Things you or your character want to do or experience: I would like for my character to experience a separation/break in his thought process of the world. Although fairly focused and understanding of the world due to his people's mix of the balance of nature and its creatures, he is still a decently positive and optimistic guy. So perhaps he could take on things more bleak that would put a challenge to his perspective, ultimately pushing him to accept a new reality or double down on Zephrah's teachings.
