So my friends want to get into DnD and the only amount of experience I have is 3.5 a few years back and adventurers League (CoS)
I figured instead of going Homebrew. Ease them in with Lost Mines. However, I'm LFG because I want to play it first to understand it before Dming it to my friends.
I've been looking over the mod a bit, But still want to play before I switch over to DM for it.
And yes I know its easy to DM it but I still have no idea what Lost Mines is really about.
As someone who jumped into DMing after very little playing, let me assure you, even Lost Mines is not that easy to DM.
If your group turns out to be anything like mine, you'll be improvising out your rear more than you will be following the story.
An easier campaign to learn DMing in, in my mind, is Hoard of the Dragon Queen. It transitions into Rise of Tiamat, which is more difficult to DM, but you should have the experiences necessary once you've completed HotDQ
How is Lost Mines not easy? It's in the Starter set????????? I Could DM CoS but I don't think they would enjoy it if I did. But Hoard and Tiamat then, I'll look at that.

You would need a group that is deadset on following the story to an absolute "T". From what Ive seen and heard, no group is ever like that.
And as a DM, its our job to cater to the player's wants. We can press, as NPC's, that the quest is dire, but if they dont wanna do it, most players will just wander off to Kingdom Come.
I agree, Curi. I am currently DM'ing Lost Mine and its harder than i expected, I had to add extra enemies and make obvious leads because the players got distracted to often. I was planning on doing Hoard first, but Lost Mine is just my favourite adventure so far. I started playing as a DM last week, I think i've gotten the hang of it so far. Even tho I think i've gotten the hang of it, Lost Mine eventually ends up messing with me...

Trust me, thats how it goes.
Hoard was the first campaign I ran when I began DMing in 2016.
When I ran Phandelver in 2017, I ****ed up so badly. There was disaster at every turn.

The story is for be ginning players as well as beginner DMs. The storyline is not very straightforward if the players don't go into the goblin cave
I thought it would railroad?
