I am going to start a homebrew campaign and I'm looking for players.
The game will be played every other week starting Wednesday May 1st @ 9pm CST. This time is not flexible due to my work schedule.
We will be using discord for voice and roll20 simply for the maps and combat placement. Characters will be made and tracked using DnDbeyond. I do not want to get bogged down trying to use all of the tools in roll20 nice as they may be.
I have a master account and will be sharing the content I own with the group.
All official content except Ravnica is acceptable. Keep in mind that if you play a monstrous race you will encounter the reactions that go along with such a race.
New players are welcome but I am hoping to get a few experienced players as well.
About me:
First I would like to start with what I am not, I am not a voice actor and I am not Mathew Mercer. If your expecting that quality or style then I am afraid you will be let down. That being said, I have been playing rpgs for a little over 20 years now. The majority of that time has been spent in DnD, but I have enjoyed many others as well. I have DMed several different campaigns over the year, but I am by no means an expert.
About the setting:
This world is a new creation that will continue to be fleshed out as we go along. This means that the group will have significant impact on the world and how it evolves.
Magic is common, there are schools of magic in the major cities and magic items will be available for purchase, albeit not cheap.
The threat from monster is real, from packs of raiding gnolls to the dragon that calls the deep forest its home. Most all caravans require protection services even along established trade routes, several businesses exist for strictly escort services. Most towns and villages are walled even if just rudimentary so. Farms and farmlands are owned by the wealthy who can afford the personnel to protect it.
Most cities are ran by a council, but a few smaller cities in the region are ran by a single wealthy family.
More details and back story will be available before sessions begin.
My style of game play will be a mix of role play and dungeon crawl. You as players will dictate to what degree each of those take. I am just hoping to tell a few and entertaining story.
If you have made it this far and your still interested in playing please provide the following:

Role-playing experience

A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign.
I look forward to meeting and developing this story with you.
Role-playing experience - I’ve done some theater in high school and I’m trying to become an actor. I’ve also played a few D&D games for a bit and get the gist of the game, but my groups keep disbanding after a short while. I do know how to play though, I’m a quick learner
Character idea/concept - I’m thinking of an Eladrin Elf assassin. Having it base off Kitana from Mortal Kombat. He’ll be an up and coming assassin, but he also bears the weight of having his family name on his shoulders.
A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign.
- The story has to be interesting for sure. Good interaction between the players and the npc’s and have the story be added more with the character backgrounds (ex. Someone left home because they wanted to find what was wrong with the village. After some leveling up, they discover it was caused by a banished villager who made a deal with the devil)
- some puzzles and dungeons would also be fun since we as adults don’t really exercise our minds daily, so once a week could very much help it
Thank you everyone that is interested so far, I am watching this thread. I would really like a mix of experienced and new players, right now we are heavy on the new player applicant side. That being said, even if your new, I expect that you have read thru the players handbook. Meaning you know the basic of combat and the class you want to play. Have a character concept helps your chances. Do not fret if I have not sent a link or message, I want to give the posting a few days so that more people can see it and have a chance to reply. Experienced player wanted.
I've been roleplaying for about 6 years, playing DnD for around 3.
I have a few in mind that I'll want to run by you ahead of time. I also a friend interested in joining a campaign, she's never really played but knows a lot about DnD mechanics.
I hope our party can mold into a solid group for some good roleplay experiences as well as amazing story content.
Character idea/concept: I have a few characters ready (including quite detailed back stories) and wouldn't mind adjusting to what the campaign might need.
A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign:
1) Balance between encounters and everything else (I find campaigns with pretty much only combat as boring as campaigns with too little combat);
2) Interaction between character storylines and the campaign storyline is a pretty damn cool thing.
3) Rules are crucial but the story and the adventure are what role-playing games are built on. Common sense is very important when applying rules. Extreme example: Player: My sword was damaged in the last fight can I use mend on it? DM: no the cantrip says you can repair only one crack/tear, yours have two (obviously different if the sword is broken in half). Me: facepalm.
4) Decisions don't always have to be between obviously good actions and obviously evil actions. I love when situations with no win-win scenarios present themselves forcing the party to actually debate what's the best path to take/side to help.
5) Ability from every player to communicate reasonably well in the same language. I am not a native English speaker but have played campaigns in English before and it was really hard to involve, interact and joke with players that weren't able to follow the narration or a conversation with an NPC or between the characters.
Role-playing experience: I've been playing D&D 5e since just after it was released, this edition is my first. I've played a few games of other RPG's also but I enjoy how fluid and easy to grasp this version is. I've played in person and also I play by post through discord. I haven't got much experience over voice chat/Roll 20 but I do have an account.
Character idea/concept: I have a few character concepts that I want to explore.
One is a Deep Gnome that due to underground rockslides/cave-ins he has been stranded on his own trying to survive. As part of one of his many attempts to excavate and find his way back home through the underdark he falls into an old chamber. The chamber is dark and empty aside from a metal lantern laying on its side. He touches the lantern and as such, is chosen for a celestial warlock pact by a phoenix. The last embers of the phoenix keep the lantern alight and to truly resurrect, the ashes must be brought to the brazier of an ancient temple atop a great mountain/in the clouds etc. His patrons wishes take him in the direct opposite direction to finding his family.
A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign:
I expect that the group will create characters that wont cause too much conflict within the party just because 'herp derp that's what my character would do.' That everyone wants to contribute to the shared narrative, listenl and work together so that everyone can have their stories told. And maybe the group becomes a family in itself.
Role-playing experience: I have played RPG's for as long as I can remember, and I have played D&D for around 5 years now.
Character idea/concept: Is the character limited by what can be organized in the dndbeyond character creator? If not, I want to run by a few ideas that are in the realm of home brew to which I would think harbor a good amount of RP and easy flexibility. Fair warning though, the one I have really been wanting to try is, without a doubt, strange; hence I want to run it by you.
A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign: Immersion and cooperation, though analyze outside of a character's perspective, or have party conflict happen is just a part of the balance that comes to co-op things like this. I do not have the experience to say much else, but I trust everyone to get along and what not!
Discord: gartono #2045
Quick Edit: Even though I may have a few ideas, i will ultimately play whatever the party and / or game is in need of if needed.
Character: Sorcerer/Rogue or Fighter/Warlock. I am currently interested in playing one of these two characters depending on which fits better within the campaign.
Fun: I enjoy a balance of role playing and combat. In my mind a good ratio is somewhere in between 1:1 or 2:1 (roleplaying:combat). Adding in the occasional mystery or puzzle to add intrigue.
Extra Info
Sadly, I would only be able to join if we were to begin at 7PM CST. Please disregard my post if this is not possible.
I am very interested in this campaign because of the frequency and day of the week we will be meeting up. However, I have a full time job (9 - 5) and I am not home by 6PM most days due to traffic.
Role-playing experience About 3 years as a DM but I've never gotten a chance to be a player.
Character idea/concept I've been dabbling with a character concept of an Archfey Warlock /Oath of the Ancients Paladin who serves a single patron. I'd be playing a more supportive role and taking spells that can help the group as a whole.
A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign. I enjoy a good dungeon crawl, collaborating with my fellow party members and having an interesting and engaging world to immerse myself in and really grow my character into something.
Role-playing experience: Text based role play on a shall not be named site daily for 2+ years, few years of off/on 3.5 with friends.
Character idea/concept: Warforged Artificer looking to delve deeper into why they were created. May or may not have voices in it's head and talks out loud when talking back to the voices. Has no memory of anything further than 3 years ago when they woke up in a crater in the middle of a forest.
A thought or two about what you expect from a fun campaign: A good story, and a group to potentially play with for a long time. i work at 11 pm PDT(game starts at 4pm PDT) so as long as it doesnt run longer than 6 hours a session i'll be good.
Character idea/concept: Oath of Vengence human paladin.
Hoping to find an ongoing, weekly D&D game group. Very open whether the environment is casual, rp, etc. I've spent alot of time watching YouTube vids on D&D play (Matt Mercer's Critical Role, etc) and feel comfortable with the mechanics. I'm an old online computer gamer as well (Ultima Online, WoW, City of Heroes, EVE, etc), tabletop games like Warhammer 40K, Starfleet Battles, Car Wars, etc, so not new to gaming as a whole.

Either a rock gnome cavalier, a genasi paladin, or an eladrin dream druid. I am partial to the outlander background.
