I have been hosting a campaign for some friends for about 2 years, and we are wrapping up the campaign. We will be starting a new one in a few weeks, and we would like a fourth player to join us. We try to play every Sunday afternoon, typically starting around 2 and ending trying to end between 9 and 10. Our gameplay has been more RP than combat, and the combat we do have always has a reason. We call it the Dark Souls campaign, since the difficulty of nearly every encounter is at least Hard, usually deadly. Actions have consequences, and victory is not easily achieved. With high risk and challenge comes high. I make a point to reward players for outsmarting me and being clever. An important note about this campaign, I will not fudge rolls for or against you. If you die, you die. If you succeed in awesome glory, congratulations! If you barely survive, looks like luck is on your side. Basically, I run a serious campaign. Not that you can never crack a joke and have a good laugh, but if you just randomly decide to kill a stranger in a bar, you better be ready to either surrender or fight off the city guards, and probably get a bounty on your head.
The biggest aspect our game is something we call Fate abilities. The idea was inspired by another RPG called Fate, but essentially, I take the time with every player to craft a special ability with each player that is unique to them that no one else can get. The possibilities are pretty much endless. If you have a favorite movie or anime character that can do something awesome, lets make it an ability! If you just have a neat idea for something that you want to try, great! The point is, your Fate ability is what truly makes your character yours. It makes your champion fighter different than every champion fighter that has ever been played. The Fate abilities also encourage deeper character development and RP opportunities. For our group, it reignited our passion for the game during a season of feeling bored of DND and looking for a new system. What's even more cool, the abilities develop and get cooler and better as your character progresses.
A few requests:
I ask that you only respond to this post if you are able to join us in person. I know it may be harsh, but I just prefer to play in person.
If you join, I ask that you exercise curtesy to the other players and myself by being present in the game. Basically just don't be on your phone the whole time and we'll be great.
Most importantly, remember that it's a game, and we're all there to have fun. It can be frustrating and feel like its unfair at times, but if one person gets into a bad mood, it kills the atmosphere for everyone.
That's about it! If you have any questions, feel free to respond on this thread or send me a direct message, and I'll happily answer your question as quickly as possible. I realize this post might come off a little condescending, but I promise, I just love the game, and I make those requests to try and preserve the fun of the game for everyone.
