Heyo. I'm thinking of setting up a big hunger games-style PVP battle royale for characters at level 12. This thread is to get an idea for whether it'd be feasible to run on the proper scale (12-24 characters).
I have great plans for the arena, the challenges you'd face, etcetera. I'm in the process of figuring out logistics and format.
Time: Two-shot. Two sessions one week apart. Late May or early June, just after the new Hunger Games book comes out ("The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes"). We'll figure out a time of day later to maximize the amount of people who can make it.
Format: Discord and Roll20. Real-time Play By Post, meaning we're mostly typing, but we're all online at the same time. This makes it so it's a lot people for people with a wide variety of accents and microphone qualities to play together. You will create your character before the first session. First session will be the "Training Session," introducing characters to each other and having 'interviews.' During that next week the public can read the interviews and vote on who their favorite three characters are (tell your friends and family!). The percentage of people who say you are one of their favorites will affect what kind of gifts and supplies you can get during the game. The second session will be the actual game. Most characters will probably die within the first hour. It will last as long as necessary until we have a winner, with scheduled 15 minute breaks happening every 2 hours. After about 4-6 hours of gameplay, effects will take place to incentivize characters spread across the arena to come together, in a way to make it more likely we don't go beyond 6-8 hours.
Looking for: 12-24 players (yes you read that correctly). Most of you will die in the first hour of the second session. All will be alive in the first session. Also looking for a handful of Game Makers (GMs) to help run different regions of the arena.
Character Creation: all official and Unearthed Arcana character options, including Eberron, Ravnica, and Critical Role, are free game. No homebrew. All characters must be adults (this is inspired by the Hunger Games, not completely the Hunger Games). Characters will all be 12th level (probably - may change this to 8th or 16th). Using a DNDBeyond character sheet will be required. You do not get starting equipment - that's what the cornucopia is for. We are taking classes that require certain items to do what they do into consideration (e.g. wizards and spellbooks) and making sure that you will have reasonable access to those types of things. We will use the Point Buy system for ability scores probably, Standard Array if not that.
Play style: Gritty and realistic. We will count ammunition and encumbrance. While long rests will restore you to full hit points, we will be playing with the optional Lasting Injuries rule, so you'll still want to avoid getting hurt. We will consider time to doff and don armor. We will be using the rules for Surprise as written in the core rulebooks (Note: most of you probably use a house rule variant - Surprise affects things like passive perception, stealth, and what you can do on your first turn of combat). There will be limitations on teleportation magic and magic to bring people back to life. In an event like this, characters who focus on combat or survival abilities probably will have a better chance of survival. But not necessarily. Sneaky players, eloquent characters, and magical characters all have very viable strategies available to them to do well. We are making sure to have arena features and item supplies and other systems that ensure that while being proficient in survival or martial weapons is useful, it does not give you a crazy upper hand. Well, it would probably be useful to be in an alliance with at least one person who is good at those, if you aren't.
Experience: Newish players and DMs are welcome. You should have played/DMed at least a few sessions before, and should feel comfortable making a 12th level character without the assistance of another person. You should also feel comfortable with the basic terminology of the game (actions, bonus actions, reactions, movement, range, saving throws, advantage, disadvantage, proficiency, attack roll, damage roll, skill check, d20, etc).
Feel free to share this with your friends! You could decide to make an alliance and coordinate characters. Or you could be bitter rivals and not coordinate at all, having a burning desire to make sure they die, even if you have to poetically kamikaze to make it happen. We need a lot of participants for this!

How'd it work out? Are you going to be running another session one day? This is a really interesting topic that I think would be fun.
can you send me the campaign I'm going to run one as well
