About Me
Hello folks! I am Joel, and I've been passionate about Role Playing Games for many many years now. I've worked for the video game industry in the South East Asian region and I am a huge fan of musical theater. I've been introduced to the world of D&D quite late (I started as player in the 2nd quarter of 2019) and have been DMing tabletop sessions for a close group of friends and been doing one-shots in online D&D communities. I've been a part of the Bipolar Dice Roller Community and have been getting great support and training in running games on Roll20.
Even though I am fairly new as a professional DM - my commitment to my players is to be 100% engaged, focused and adaptable during our sessions. I'm also available and very easy to approach for any questions even outside our game sessions. Moreover, your feedback as player would be always appreciated for my continuous improvement. Every session, I want to have the best gaming experience with you, and with your help - I definitely think this can be achievable!
I am looking for passionate and committed players to start this DnD journey with me. As a DM, I more well-versed in tactical combat encounters, and themes on exploration but I am going to give my all and won't shy way for the occasional RP encounters. The goal of each session, is to have a good balance and more importantly - to have a FUN session! Session 0 would always be free for you to get a sense whether I would be the type of DM for you.

Why pay for a game?
I am often asked what the point is in paying for a game and I know that most people who ask that question have already decided their opinion on doing so. However, for those of you still on the fence, allow me to offer you the benefits of a paid game:
- The Game Master is financially obligated to show up and give their best.
- The Players are financially obligated to show up and not let their money go to waste.
- Exclusivity. The competition for spaces in free games is astronomically high, there are too many players and not enough games.
- Taking payment allows me to work on my games full time, this ensures all the required preparation is done and constant contact is possible.
- Material costs are covered by your payment. Buying resources to use in games is covered by the DM and access to all of Roll20's content is available to you via Compendium Sharing.
- As an additional perk - You will also have access to all D&D sourcebooks FOR FREE electronically through DnD Beyond as long as you are part of my current campaign / player pool (I'm a Pro DnD Beyond Subscriber as well)
- Pro features are available. API scripts, visual effects and standard resources are all covered by the DM's subscription
Character Creation
Any setting relevant official sourcebook or online resource are permitted for use. Homebrew content must be cleared by myself personally prior to character creation.
If you wish to play an evil character in a party constituting non-evil characters, you must come up with a watertight reason for that character cooperating with the party.
You can use any method to attain your stats. When rolling you must do it where the rest of the group can see it. Rerolls are only permitted if your stats average 11 or lower (rounded down) or you highest stat is a 14 or lower. You only get to reroll once, you may then choose which of the two sets of rolls you wish to use or you can choose one of the other methods for attaining stats.
Backstory: Having a backstory is not mandatory, but it is definitely encouraged! If you wish to write one I will do my best to incorporate it into the main story (backstories intrinsically linked to the flavour of the campaign are gold dust!).
Application Process
Please provide me with the following information, either in the game discussion below or via a personal message.
What You Are Looking For: Combat which is challenging and promotes investment because the threat of character death is real. I then enjoy using roleplay to reflect on the group's shared experiences and collectively discover how the events of the campaign change our characters. I very much enjoy in character conversations and even arguments when the situation calls for it. I love using my character's skills to discover lore about the world and potential secrets buried below the surface.

Character Name: Liliana Ilmater
Character Class: Redemption Paladin
Character Race: Zariel Tiefling
A "little" info about my character: Liliana has spent most of her childhood growing up in the Baulder's Gate Temple of Ilmater (https://keepersoftherealm.obsidianportal.com/wikis/ilmater). At the age of 17 she took a vow to faithfully and diligently serve Ilmater "The lord who endures". She has been a paladin in training for 4 years now in the land of Damara. Two years were spent at the Monastery of the Yellow Rose located in the Earthspur Mountains; here she learned meditation, the healing powers of a paladin, and how to build up her physical endurance. At the Monastery she studied alongside Ilmater monks, clerics, paladins. She then spent 2 years at the Abbey of St. Sollars located in Bloodstone Village in Damara. Here she trained more specifically with other paladins and studied the Holy Book of St. Sollars along with other fellow paladin apprentices. After these years of study, she has now made her way back to her home of Baulder's Gate to serve at the local temple. She is now 22 and has been serving at the temple for 3 months.
Other backstory info: Liliana's mother was originally engaged to a blacksmith named Elijah. They were in love but unfortunately, Emilia was magically charmed by a devil and became pregnant with Lilliana. Emilia's mind was wiped of this event through the use of modify memory by the devil. Elijah and Emilia assumed that the baby was their own so they had a wedding once the pregnancy became obvious. 5 months into the marriage Liliana was born and both Elijah and Emilia were shocked to find that their baby had small horns and a tail. Elijah accused Emilia of infidelity, packed up his business, and moved to an unnamed city. Emilia was left destitute and her moral standing in the community of Baulder's gate was severely tarnish. She tried to find work to provide for her and her daughter but simply could not make ends meet. Eventually, she had to attempt to raise Liliana in the outer city slums of Baulder's Gate. Early childhood (years 0-4) were rough for Liliana. Emilia could not stand to see Liliana suffer and soon made the difficult decision to beg the priest of the temple of Ilmater to take Liliana and have the temple raise her. Father Lucien prayed to Ilmater for guidance and decided to take in Liliana.
Personality: 1) She is tolerant of other faiths and respects the worship of other gods. 2) She is always ready to help carry the burden of others' problems but have difficulty asking for help even when she desperately needs it. 3) She loves reading poetry
Bonds: 1) Her mother Emilia LeFauve (recently deceased) 2) Her younger "brother" Miloh who is an 11-year-old half-orc who has also been taken in by the temple of Ilmater in Baulder's Gate. 3) Her devil father whom she has never met.
Ideals: 1) All injustice should be challenged, and the victims aided.
Flaws: 1) She is often too trusting of others, and she reflexively blames herself if she is betrayed. 2) She suffers from acute social anxiety attacks. When they are particularly severe they cause her to vomit. She understands that anxiety and attempts to hide the severity of it from others. These attacks are semi-uncommon.
I like the way you've presented your game and how you work as a DM. You give good reasons for the price, and I think it's a fair deal based on your description. I can't play in your campaign because of timezones, but I want to at least give a quick feedback that your post is exactly the kind of post that would get me curious to pay for a few sessions with a professional DM.
