Game: Playtest of Low Fantasy Gaming rules with Homebrew Dark Sorcery magic system Group type: Online Experience: New / a few years / veteran -(18 years old plus, please) Location/Timezone: USA South Carolina Schedule: 7pm to 10pm Roles sought: Players - looking for 4-6 players total Game style: Gritty Swords & Sorcery, Encumbrance, possible content warning for hand-waved animal sacrifice in magic system
I'm looking for some players to try out a magic system based on sympathetic energy sources and/or blood magic.
The first playtest for preparing to introduce the World of Weirth low fantasy setting will be played with the Low Fantasy Gaming ruleset (free download at the link), by Stephen Grodzicki.
We will be using all of the BTB mechanics except for the following:
We will forego some of the campaign-setting-specific Character Creation steps, as we are looking test the core rules with the Swords & Sorcery magic system I’ve cobbled together.
Pre-Gen Characters
(Any of these characters can be played as male or female.)
A Barbarian – Daughter or son of a chief of desert nomads. Good rider, knows desert terrain, very abrupt and matter-of-fact.
A Fighter – This PC joined the Duke’s army to travel like Uncle did, having grand adventures and collecting gold! Unfortunately they’ve been assigned to garrison duty in a backwater town. Making the best of a bad hand, they became a bit of a sneak and now sells Army food and equipment on the Black Market.
A Magic-User – A specialist Elementalist, has spent years studying the forces and materials of nature. they have been sent out into the world to “earn their spurs” and find more lost spells for the Order.
Another Magic-User – A former Temple Guardian, well-versed in protective and offensive magicks. Recruited to protect the Temple from Chaos, they’ve been sent on a “secret mission” to find lost spells for the Cult.
A Rogue – Raised as part of a traveling entertainer troupe, their role is that of “magician” and Illusionist. Using alchemist’s tricks and sleight of hand has served them well, but they are tired of being a “starving artist”.
Party Bond
The Rogue left their traveling troupe in the dead of night, five nights ago. They met the Elementalist and made a friend. They then finessed being able to stay in the Elementalist’s room in the inn while the M-U was off prospecting for a few days.
The Barbarian, Fighter and Temple Guardian were serving as guardsmen for a caravan that reached the city three days ago. Their tour of duty is ended and they are at loose ends for a prospect of work. The Temple Guardian met the Rogue in the market just yesterday…they hit it off and decided to meet again for drinks and games of dice in the Tavern.
The Elementalist and the Rogue were thinking about joining a caravan to Innoqueb City for the festival of the investiture of the new Queen. The Rogue is busy selling this idea to the trio. Surely there is a fortune to be made selling Moonstone there!
The Elementalist has been in the area, prospecting for Moonstone. They return to town, and to the Tavern, just in time for the meeting of the rest of the PCs. While prospecting in the badlands, there was a landslide, which exposed a long-hidden tomb. The Elementalist’s guide, an experienced (but greedy!) old miner and prospector, rushed into the tomb. The Elementalist heard some shouting, then coughing and choking, and now nothing. The prospector never came back out!
Now the Elementalist has returned, looking for some assistance in investigating this tomb. The first person they look for is their new friend, the Rogue, who happens to be sitting with a small party of caravan guards, drinking and tossing dice.
