THIS – is Hp2Xp. Distance is no longer an obstacle for the comradery that brings a tabletop crew together. We have stepped through the fog into an online version of our favorite game. Here’s your chance to be part of an amazing game, and a meaningful, collaborative storytelling experience. Let’s begin, shall we?
Part 1: Expectations
Game: D&D 5e Rules (Homebrew world/DM-created)
Group type: Online using Video chat via Discord. This game will be streamed via Twitch and hosted as VOD on YouTube. Video will be used. No Voice-only players at this time, please.
Experience requested: Age 18+. Experienced players who are comfortable with the 5E ruleset. You do NOT need to have completed a set amount of play time in your past. Just know the core rules.
Location/Time Zone: Game will be streamed Wednesdays at 7pm EST (6pm CST) from the United States. Players need to be on-line no later than 6:30pm EST for technical set-up.
Roles sought: Seeking a diverse group of players for a roleplay-heavy campaign. (80/20 RP to combat split can be expected.) Players with streaming, editing, or art and marketing experience: Please include a note in your message indicating such experience. We’d love to have you on the team!
Technical Requirements: D&DBeyond, Discord (Voice and Video), and Roll20 basic user accounts, and Beyond20 widget on Firefox or Chrome will be used every session. HD quality webcam (Ex: Razer Kiyo or another 1080p/60fps webcam), External Microphone (Shure MV5/Blue Yeti Nano or better) should be currently owned or able to be obtained. (Priority will be given to those who can meet our deadlines with said equipment. See below.) Stable internet connection with low-lag desired along with decent lighting.
Business details: Our goal is to monetize the stream. Players will execute independent contractor agreements and provide tax info before we begin. Payments will be made via PayPal based on a share of stream revenue to maintain safety and security.
Professional Expectations: Our game is expected to develop a following. Players should be comfortable being in the public eye. Our game is inclusive, fair, and encouraging. If you want to have fun and make meaningful art, we want to hear from you!
Part 2: A Taste of Umbranthal
It’s a time of warm winds and great bounties across the whole of Umbranthal. It’s barely 100 years since the continent of Clausthal was discovered. Miners, sailors, explorers, and adventures have set out from Ulottava in search of new people, new lands, and new opportunities. But tensions abound. A war between the Central Imperium and the City States of Faljar is only two centuries past and there are hints it may reignite in the shifting landscape of Clausthal. This is to say nothing of the designs of the Alhberg Kingdom, nor for that matter unknown and uncontacted residents of Clausthal’s wildlands.
Part 3: How to Audition
Please respond via DM (No post replies) with your answers to the following questions.
What is your location? State/Country and Time Zone. (International Players are welcome to apply, we can discuss the tax issues specific to your country of residence).
Can you commit to a time slot of Wednesday from 6:30pm-12am EST? (30 min tech rehearsal, five-hour block for play with a 15-minute break during the session.)
Are you comfortable talking in front of people? For example: do you have any theater experience?
What kind of characters do you like/want to play? Why? Provide as many details as you can. (Please keep in mind that you may not be playing this exact character in this campaign.)
What are you looking to get out of a campaign with your character? Goals, etc..
Have you experienced the permanent death of a character or of a long-term party member? What happened, and what was the outcome?
What was the best part of your last campaign?
What is one thing you would change about your last DM?
What streams, YouTube campaigns, or D&D-related podcasts do you enjoy?
What are some of your favorite and least favorite homebrew rules?
What webcam and mic do you use/can you acquire in time for the stream? (Before 10/26, ideally)
Based upon your answers you may be asked to submit a video presenting yourself to our team. Video submission will be followed by video interviews and game-play auditions. Interested players should be available either November 4th or November 11th for game play auditions. Final selections will be made by November 13th. Session Zero will be November 18th.
Part 4: Disclaimer
We at HP2XP want to personally thank anyone who has taken the time to read about our project. We are passionate people with a drive to succeed, so you must be, too, to have gotten this far. We understand this seems like a lot to fit into a bag of holding, but for streamed campaigns turned businesses, (who wouldn’t want to get potentially paid for a hobby?) it is imperative that we screen effectively and efficiently for the right fit. We hope to see you in our DM’s soon!
From dice to dungeons, may you adventure another day,
Update: We are still looking for players on an active basis for at least another week. This Game will not start gameplay until early November as stated above.
To be considered, do you have to have technical ability with editing, etc? Or is this something that could be learned "on the job" or other things (e.g. marketing) be part of, even with little or no experience?
Thank you in advanced for considering this question!
Not at all! That would be purely a bonus if you wanted to contribute in that way. Those of us already involved are doing that stuff ourselves, but we are welcoming the help since that is what draws some players in to a campaign like this. You can be as involved as you have time/skills for. :)
PHEW! I think I could lend a lot to a marketing team and I would want to be part of the team's success by doing more than just playing...so I will send you my DM with all the answers to your questions!
Will players maintain the copyright over this content to use for purposes other than the stream, i.e. promotional purposes or other commercial endeavours?
