Salutations, I am looking for a new player who is interested in joining a currently ongoing (homebrewed) long-term DND campaign following 5e rules/handbooks. The game is conducted on discord, and game time is every Wednesday at 7:30 PM PST - 10:30 PM PST. The campaign is a long term meaning there is a commitment to be had: if you are not willing to commit, then this game is not for you.
Player must be 18+ and above as a mature game is in mind. Each session runs for 3 hours to 4 maximum, occasionally little over that time limit if the group pushes it.
If you are interested, please answer the questionnaire and leave your discord below (I will not respond if you do not answer the questionnaire). My game information is also below if you want a quick TL;DR. Thank you for your time. If you don't feel comfortable leaving your discord below, them PM after answering the questionnaire.
MY GAME INFORMATION Game: D&D 5e
Setting: Homebrewed
A short snippet of the setting is a Dark Fantasy setting in which many kingdoms and realms rule over vast ranges of land and continents with sprinkling of Final Fantasy esque elements. War, trade, and politics are backdrops into the game to give it a sense of believability, and the player characters dictate the world in small or large ways.
Group type: Online (Discord)
Current Group Size: 5 players (3 Male | 2 Female )
My Experience: A few years as a DM, I can admit, I am not the best with voices but I try my best.
Location/Timezone: PST
Schedule: Wednesday 7:30 - 10:30 PM
Game style: Following the 5e rules/handbooks with a few house rules. We communicate via discord for audio, with music and images to help out. Battles are conducted via roll20. The Player Characters drive the story as their own individual stories take point as an overarching narrative ties them together.
Questionnaire Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player… What have you enjoyed in previous campaigns that you wish occurred more often in other campaigns?
What type of player would you consider yourself? Do you enjoy role-playing? Do you enjoy longer campaigns that run for many sessions?
What type of story do you look for in a campaign? Do you like political intrigue, a personal revenge driven story, fighting the Big Bad, saving the world, a small adventuring group trying to make a living, or anything along those lines...
Hi I'd like to join your campaign possibly. My discord is Callifornia2#1000.
1. Experience that I enjoyed as a player is hard cause dnd is full of them but i think my first time playing has fond memories even though we had no clue what we were doing at the time. My first character broke down a tree with her breasts and then used mage hand to toss it into a dragon. It was our first time playing and no one knew what we were doing but it was fun to roleplay. A more serious and less newbie experience that I fondly look back at is in one of my current games, we were trying to swindle this guy into buying a stone altar from us and the whole group got into trying to convince this man to buy this stone altar for 300 gold.
An experience I disliked as a player is a little hard for me since I've enjoyed most of my games, I guess one would be when the DM of a game I used to play in would ignore any requests I made with my character. One time we entered into a much more advance city and my character was unsure of riding in a car, so I said she would run beside the car, the DM told me no you get in the car. I think I would prefer it if it was roleplayed out or my character was soothed or convinced that this was the better action to take.
2. I enjoy it when there is a lot of interaction between the players outside of just the game itself. I think it helps improve relationships with the characters if the people themselves get to know one another and become friends. I think building bonds is something I wish I got more out of playing campaigns.
3. My roommate and friends would say I am definitely a chaotic neutral type player. I am someone who likes things to be a little silly at points and serious at others. I am also a spontaneous player who has an idea and is like well lets go with that then. It's usual small things like my bird character, Keku, stealing apples and using them as currency cause she doesn't know what money is for example.
4. I love roleplaying. I think that's the part I love the most. Like rolling dice is great and I love combat but building a character in a world and roleplaying it out with people is the most fun.
5. I've never actually played a game that wasn't a long term game. Except for my first game. I'm currently in 2 campaigns that will be long term, and I run my own campaign which I've been doing since March of this year. I think if your doing a short game it kind of doesn't dive deep enough into the characters and world.
6. I like the experience of any story. I'm driven to see the characters develop, grow, make friends, make enemies, be heros, be the bad guys, involve themselves into politics or steal the farmers horses from down the road. I just enjoy having a story to explore, expand and witness.
1. For me, it was while playing the True Nuetral Half Orc BearBardbarian Uggu in my first Avernus campaign that most of my memorable moments came from. The character was great because there was a level of unpredictability in what he did, often switching from a benign lute player to a raging barbarian at random points. On the other hand, in the second long campaign I played a simple lawful good human paladin named Joseph Cant. The character was nice in his own way, (I didn't play the lawful stupid variant, just a normal, somewhat wholesome character) he felt far too simple, and yet inflexible. I realized that I didn't want someone with a staunch moral code, or a character so dedicated to their goal it disrupts the party. For example, Uggu wanted to become a real bard, and get enough money to attend bard college, and would practice his lute player whenever he had an excuse to. However, the vagueness of his goal let him work with the party without breaking his character. Overall, the more poor experience wasn't down to the other players or the Dm, but how I built roleplayed the characters.
2. Honestly, lower session length times. The 3-4 hour session sounds great to me. I've done 5-6/7 hour sessions before and just couldn't do it. Beyond that, I don't think I have enough experience with Dnd to see as much variety. Maybe add music, but it seems you got that covered.
3. Definitely more on the comedic scale in terms of character, (no, i don't really mean meme characters, just more off the wall or insane ones) but I can definitely try to act more serious, and I try not to sacrifice drama and tension to make that happen. True Neutral seems to be the alignment I'm most comfortable with, or atleast a character that can be manipulated easy for the sake of party cohesion. Beyond that, I do have a habit of trying to optimize whatever character idea I've gone for. I've also noticed I might start with a fairly simple premise for a character, that may evolve over time. Overall, I'm relatively new to Dnd, with only 2 characters under my belt, who's style may evolve as time goes on.
4. Well, roleplaying is kinda the point of Dnd for me. I do like combat, and the unpredictability that comes with dice rolls, but I like to get into a character's head and try to make a more bizarre character feel like someone that could actually exist.
5. Well, I think that longer campaigns are good for forcing me to expand on a character, challenging them to evolve to keep them interesting.
6. Honestly, I don't know. As it is, I think I can work with whatever it is we're doing. I'd probably want to spectate a session beforehand, to get an idea of what kinda party I'd be joining, and so I could make a character that mixes in an interesting way with the party and the setting.
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player… i mean i havent had a ton of experience. wasnt crazy about this one group i was in where a player talked about roleplaying **** fantasies. just not my thing. What have you enjoyed in previous campaigns that you wish occurred more often in other campaigns?
oh i like to think of new creative ways to use characters interacting with the world. i think of a group that had to do consecutive successful rolls in order to operate an airship. pretty fun mechanic.
What type of player would you consider yourself? still kind of finding that out. i DM'ed a game once upon a time. tomb of annihilation it was a blast but just had the group fall apart after a month. Do you enjoy role-playing? sure some. unfortunately i do meta game some. hard to know where to do that and not do that Do you enjoy longer campaigns that run for many sessions?
i think so i feel like hey i got somewhere! as opposed to like hey where are we again?
What type of story do you look for in a campaign? Do you like political intrigue, a personal revenge driven story, fighting the Big Bad, saving the world, a small adventuring group trying to make a living, or anything along those lines...
honestly i like all sorts of stuff. i would like to get better at dungeoncrawling, puzzles ( never had one in game) i think it would be cool if the world kind of changes based on the players influence. there was a great post i read once upon a time that was like the "ideal" campaign but i feel like any number of ways to have a fun game could happen
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player…
- I was playing a game where the DM forgot that a battle was supposed to be a brawl in a tavern, so the NPCS all had weapons and we were pretty low level. The battle had some really close moments but at the end we felt very accomplished and during the battle we all made the decision to do non-lethal strikes. This coordination and conversation during battle + the difficulty was rewarding. At the end the DM advised he made a mistake and praised us for the non-lethal strikes because if we had killed them there would have been consequences. Having consequences to actions I think is very important. What have you enjoyed in previous campaigns that you wish occurred more often in other campaigns?
- Collaboration between players. I have seen groups that never considered party composition and struggled in ways that they didn't enjoy, I've played a oath of redemption paladin in a group that decided to all be murder happy violent characters on a whim except for one other character who went pacifist. Knowing a little bit about character concepts and where they plan to go (even if that changes it's ok) can help the first few sessions flow a bit better.
- Bringing in aspects of the backstory & working with the DM prior to start to ensure that backstory fits with the current world
- Getting some high level information about the campaign so that when creating a character you aren't selecting something that doesn't fit with the world/style of the campaign (if there will almost only be battle and no intrigue some sub-classes may not be as fun for example)
What type of player would you consider yourself?
- I would consider myself a utility player, happy to fit into any role (heals, caster, front line) and one who tries to use skills/spells in a creative way outside of combat. I enjoy the RP aspects of the game and try to create characters with depth and try to avoid any of the stereotypes when looking at specific classes. I do not play characters that will make an issue for the team (Evil in a group of Good, or a characters who is murder happy) and try to focus on letting everyone have a chance to shine/support them. Do you enjoy role-playing? - I love role-playing... sometimes it takes me a session or two to find the voice/style of a new character and get comfortable with them.
Do you enjoy longer campaigns that run for many sessions?
- Yes, it allows each player a chance to shine, grow and develop their character.
What type of story do you look for in a campaign? Do you like political intrigue, a personal revenge driven story, fighting the Big Bad, saving the world, a small adventuring group trying to make a living, or anything along those lines...
- All of the above actually. Political intrigue opens up a lot of stealth / dialog choices, having an over arching villain can be a great goal to work towards... I mean honestly to me it's about the group, with the right group of people each aspect can be epic and rewarding. I look for a challenge, I don't like always winning and find the struggles in battle and out help characters grow. Sometimes a failed roll is good and helps keep the characters more realistic.
I'm new just started my 4 session in two campaigns I do like long campaigns so I can get the full exp of a campaign.
I don't mind long sessions as long it's some fighting I get distracted kind of easy story wise I don't care much for political intrigue stories but big adventures with a mix of character progression and fighting different enemies.
I like role playing I'm not good with doing voices but when I get out of being nervous I really have a charming personality to whatever character I have.
