It was a quiet November night in 1978, on our ship in the Indian ocean sailing to our destination. Our group gathered in a cold grey steel room and started another chapter in our ongoing Dungeon and Dragon adventures. The Books, maps, character sheets, and miniature figurines were scattered all over the floor, and we were deep in our fantasy world. I was Ettrian Fernpool, a 19th level elf Demon fighter/magic-user whose goddess was Lolth Demon, queen of spiders. As we traveled in the high woods to Karse, a village inhabited by wood elves, to gather information about our quest to Silverwood, we noticed a stench in the air and heard a loud beating sound in the air. There in the sky was a gargantuan green dragon, and after saving throws, we found out the paladin traveling with us had slaughtered one of these dragons’ offspring so, we were going to have to fight. After we took initial damage, it was our turn to attack. I had in my possession my vorpal sword I liked it to use against powerful adversaries, but the Dragon was too far away to hit. So, I used a demon summoning spell and summoned Lolth and rolled a perfect eight (on eight-sided dice) for her to assist me safely. Lolth used a web spell to hold the Dragon, and I made the roll of my life a 20, magnificently putting the bag of carrying on the head of the Green Dragon. Our fighter made a picture-perfect roll of 20, shooting an arrow at the bag, making the head disappear into another realm, successfully killing the green Dragon. I tried to animate dead to which had no effect on the Dragon because there was no head. What a night two perfect rolls in a row by me defeating a mighty green Dragon.
