You and Duncan reach the Happy Duckling Inn after pushing on to a later hour than usual for travel and Duncan appears road weary and happy to see the comforting site of the dancing lights in the window. He secures his wagon in the stables and gives the stable boy 2 silver, then accompanies you inside for a meal and room.
Once you've eaten, discussed the strange encounter with the vultures a little, and had a few drinks, Duncan presents you with a fat pouch of coins. "As far as I be concerned yer were worth both yours and Kiya's salary." He also draws out a small cherrywood chest and places it on the table between the both of you. "I found this item and it might be priceless... I dunno? But one thing I be sure of is that it's magical and well... I'm no adventurer meself so I figure you deserve it for doing the heavy lifting with those vultures. And who knows, if you ever want to help guard any other trips I make then this is like an investment."
(When you open the small chest it contains 1 common or uncommon magic item, it cannot be a specific item of legend, just a generic item from the lists mentioned. You get to choose what it is.)

You hex & blast the claw that came around Joroden to try and strike at you and send it splattering against a wall. Dead. But then you notice 4 more scrabble within reach and attack you.
claw 1: Attack: 18 Damage: 5
claw 2: Attack: 4 Damage: 4

Evre uses chill touch at one that attacked her- a glowing hand reaches out to grab one of the crawling claws, at the same time as her little owl flies at the undead claw- and then returns to Evre’s Shoulder
If hit- claw has disadvantage on attacks vs Evre for 1 round.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Evre's spell causes a ghostly, skeletal hand to appear next to a undead claw, clutch it in it's grasp, and crush it to splintered bones and clumps of flesh, as it crumbles the ghostly hands fades. (another crawling claw dead)
You realize there isn't much to them but the horror of having so many swarm over everyone is extremely unsettling to say the least. This thought is reinforced by 4 crawling claws making attacks against you as they crawl within melee range and then spring at you.
claw 1: Attack: 5 Damage: 2
claw 2: Attack: 20 Damage: 2
claw 3: Attack: 20 Damage: 3
claw 4: Attack: 5 Damage: 2
(Vaden is still up, and Kralog will be next... each can go in any order as they will each have their own claws to deal with. Once each of them has taken their turns it will be the end of round 1 and I will post how many crawling claws are left and start round 2.)

Horxik gasps as he pulls a wand from the box. "This will certainly do as payment." He quickly counts out the coin before raising his hand to order a drink for himself and Duncan. You drink and celebrate the possible beginning of a great friendship with Duncan, eating and drinking, even getting a game of cards or dice going (whichever you prefer?) in which you do quite well. When you get around to counting your coin you are quite drunk but think you have 73 gold. (This is a total of the payment and pots won and lost during the gambling.)

When you finally fall asleep you begin to have a nightmare triggered by the approaching storm and rumbles of thunder, but strangely as the storm nears and grows louder you fall into a deep and endless, peaceful slumber, what some would call the 'sleep of the dead' and you cease breathing. To all outward appearances you appear to be dead.
In the early morning you are shaken awake by a serving wench, "Thank the gods! You gave me such a fright there for a second when I couldn't shake you awake. That's what you get for drinking so much. Was it someone's birthday? Or just what were you celebrating?" She asks in a friendly & flirty voice and manner as she is cleaning up some stray items from tables and getting ready to open to the public.

Soon the entire heavens are a sheet of solid black and you are plunged into total darkness.
