Theldrin retires to his room and soon heads to bed, feeling the wine and exhausted from the long day. He nestles into the down pillow and perfumed sheets, reminded of the days of his youth at Osgard Manor in Gradsul. If only he had listened to his father and followed in his footsteps as everyone in the family said he should do, luxuries such as this would be his every day. With a deep sigh he feels a moment of doubt, then he thinks of the looks of gratitude and hope in the faces of the villagers in Orlane.... What price could you put on that? he thinks to himself as he smiles in the darkness, and slowly drifts off to sleep.
He finds himself walking alone on a long stretch of windy beach, picking up driftwood and interesting shells from the receding tide. He comes across a series of bones, bleached by the salt and sun, which he follows as he tries to determine what manner of creature they came from. As he moves past the wreckage of a fishing boat he spots the bones of what looks like a large serpent and as he moves towards them, they rise up from the sand and spin in the air, taking the shape of the Naga in a cloud of sand. He gasps and falls back into the surf as the face of the Naga fully forms and fixes a malevolent gaze upon him....
Theldrin wakes with a start, soaked in sweat... breathing a sigh of relief as he shakes off the dream. Standing up he clears his head as he goes to the window, pulling back the drap to look at the soft glow of the city streets in the moonlight. I hope Bigby knows what he's doing, he thinks to himself, ...to finish this for good. He suddenly has the sense that someone or something is watching him, and a movement catches his eye on the roof of the shuttered building across the street. Was it a cat or rodent moving back into the shadows? Deciding he may have imagined it after not seeing anything further he eventually heads back to bed and manages to get some uneasy sleep until the dawn comes.
He heads down to the main room hoping the Inn has a fine quality black tea with fresh milk to go with breakfast. As he eats he says to Liarin, "It's not surprising that you would want to head back to the forest, though I suspect our time here in the city won't be too long... in any case, you shall be missed and I am glad to have had the honor to fight by your side. But not yet time for farewells eh? Let's go see what we can do for our friend Toska."
Xanrym reads his letter from Yr and shares the gist with the party, simply saying, "Yr congratulates us on our success in Orlane and wishes the 'prosperity and glory to you and the rest of the Company of the Grey Chain'! He survived the demon attack, of course, and is now with Bigby. He has no specific plans to reunite. That means that I am free of that obligation and may go whither I will after we finish our business in The Free City."
In the morning, Xanrym will ask the innkeeper for help locating a one-horse cart or sled that they can hire for the day. That way, they can provide more dignified transportation to the temple for Toska than having her body slung over the back of a horse. They can put Toska's body in the cart and cover it with a cloak. It also lets them cover up the chests of treasure that they'll be bringing with them in case they need it to pay for the spell.
It only costs you 3cp to hire a cart from the High Tower Inn to the Street of Temples. When Vinme sees you've gone to these lengths she nods in appreciation and helps you to load Toska onto the cart. She then leads you down the street. Hidden among the city’s grander temples is a quiet, modest house of worship with clay-tiled rooftops, a corner bell tower, and well-tended vegetable gardens. Sick and hungry folk gather in short lines outside as they wait for priests to attend to their needs. "The Temple of the Far Horizon. Devoted to Fharlanghn, a god favored by travelers and mercenaries. The Priests who staff the temple offer nourishment, rest, and healing to those in need, day and night." Vinme explains as she leads you past the people and into the temple itself.
Inside the temple is not much bigger than the Church of St. Cuthbert. You see a congregation of acolytes helping the needy near the front of the church, while two priests direct them from the dias at the back, a man and a woman. Over in the corner, near a map of the continent, an old man with long white hair is deep in prayer. Vinme looks at the two on the dias and sighs, "Those are the regular priests here, Dariel and Ayana, it doesn't seem anyone more powerful is in at the moment. Your free to talk to these two if you wish, but I doubt they can do much."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: If I understand correctly, Vinme, Dariel, and Ayana know each other.)
Xanrym will walk with Vinme over to the dais. Once she introduces him to Dariel and Ayana, he says, "It is good to meet you. Yes, I am Xanrym, a member of the Company of the Grey Chain. We just arrived in The Free City yesterday -- praise Fharlanghn! Though we were brought here via magic, skipping the long road, but that is only because our errand required great haste! You see, we came here directly from Orlane, near Hochoch, on the northern frontier of Keoland. We recently defeated an evil cult that had infiltrated the town of Orlane and defeated their false god, a magical serpentine monster known as a naga. Tragically, our friend, Toska, was killed in our fight with the naga, and we hoped that you could help us bring her back to life. She is cleric too, a follower of Saint Cuthbert, but perhaps The Dweller on the Horizon would see fit to raise her. Toska was an itinerant cleric, traveling the roads and fighting back against evil wherever she found it. I cannot believe that the gods meant for her story to end in the lair of naga in the middle of a dismal swamp. Could you help us?"
Xanrym hastens to add, "If you could find a way to bring Toska back from the dead, I'm sure that we could find a way to repay you. We have tales of our adventures through the Dim Forest and the Rushmoors. And we have all traveled extensively before that. Avery was formerly a Knight of the Watch in Bissel, and our wizard was training under his first master in Ekbir."
Avery - Theold man smiles and opens his eyes, "Nothing and everything, friend knight. Knight of the Watch I take it? You're far from your lands. What brings you to the Free City?"
Xanrym - The two clerics looks questioningly upon you as you talk, but when you ask for a Raise Dead spell to be cast they look at each other and then around the room. Finally Ayana speaks to you "It certainly sounds like you've performed some great deeds, and we certainly have a good relationship with the Church of St. Cuthbert. But neither of us are powerful enough to cast a Raise Dead spell i'm sorry. Have you tried to the archpriest of Pelor yet?"

Xanrym sighs and says, "Yes, Vinme suggested the temple of Pelor too, but honestly, I hoped that we'd find what we needed here. I'm a story-teller, and the great stories always seem to happen 'over there'." Xanrym waves a hand vaguely in the distance. He says, "I'd love to travel all over Oerth, like Fharlanghn! Learning about the peoples and their history, exploring ancient ruins, and helping wherever I could. What a life! The Dweller on the Far Horizon appeals to me more than the other gods, but if we cannot find help for Toska here, I guess we'll have to try at Pelor's temple."
If they cannot help, Xanrym thanks the two clerics and gives them a donation of a few gold pieces for their for their alms box.

Avery smiles and gives a half bow, being recognized for what he was. "We have come to this great city to see to our fallen comrade, a Cleric of St. Cuthbert who had perished during our fight against a nest of Naga that had bewitched a local town. While now that town and its good people have been liberated, the threat of the Naga removed, this good Cleric fell and now we are in a race to find a High Priest or someone who can raise them from the dead. Would you happen to know where a service like this can be found?"
Theldrin waits patiently to see if anything will come from the visit to the Temple of the Far Horizon. He notes they seem to be doing good work here so he will also donate a few gold pieces to the cause.
After talking with Avery, hearing Xanrym's empassioned speech to the priests, and Theldrin's donation to the church, the old man stands up. It's with surprising spryness and he grabs a staff while doing so, simple in design but clearly sturdy and hard. You see he wears simple clothes, his sun tanned skin stretches but doesn't seem thin like you would expect of someone so old. He announces to the group, "You have all shown much bravery and insight travelling such a great distance to revive your fallen friend. My name is Silvain Inazan, The Strider of Fharlanghn. You have clearly come here under proper pretences and I see no need to deny your request. I will Raise your friend from the dead, have you brought a Diamond worth 500gp? Or at least that much in coinage?"
Avery will smile with relief and see what they have with the group. "I will donate my share of the loot to his endeavor. I can sell some of my equipment that I am not using anymore."
(OOC: FYI - Xanrym also made a small donation to the church.)
Xanrym is initially surprised and then happy to hear that Silvain Inazan will help them. He says, "Praise Fharlanghn that our journeys brought us together here in his temple!" He waves a toward at Avery and says, "Don't worry, Avery. I don't think that you'll need to sell any of your gear. We recovered enough treasure from the naga cult to pay this cost." To the priests, he emphasizes, "And gladly. It is a small cost to pay for the sake of our friend. Whether Toska joins us in our next adventure or stays here with Vinme to recover, we will be glad to know that she is back in Saint Cuthbert's service and still fighting back against Evil in this world."
Xanrym will help the others bring Toska and the two chests in from the cart. The party has (before paying for this spell) 1284 gp worth of coins, gems, and jewelry from the naga's lair, plus the small jade statue of a naga and a snake head pendant with emerald eyes. I don't think that the Company has determined how much the statue or the pendant are worth yet, but we definitely have enough treasure to pay for this spell without having to sell any gear.
Theldrin smiles and gives Silvain Inazan a respectful bow. "I can't think of a better way to spend 500 gold, we thank you for your willingness to help."
The other two priests usher the people out of the temple and continue their charity outside, while Strider Silvain gets the room ready for the rites. When you deliver the 500gp, Silvain immediately puts the lot into the charity well of the temple and starts examining Toska's body. He looks inquisitively all over her for what seems like 10 minutes and then starts muttering little incantations, looking up every now and then and examining the corpse. After another 30 minutes the incantations get longer and longer, the words drawing out to almost a drone, and the Strider keeps his eyes closed for about 20 minutes. Eventually, his voice stops, and he reaches out his hand very slowly, putting his entire palm over the wound in Toska's torso. When it comes into contact with the body, it's almost as though a bolt of energy rips through the man and into Toska, her body flying up a few inches off the table she's laid on. Silvain falls back onto his bottom, and for a moment Toska stays deathly still.
Then her eyes open lightening fast. She sits bolt upright and her hands immediately fly to her body where the hole used to be, but you see there is no hole now, just a black scar like a tattoo on her. She gasps heavily as she looks around her, at the temple, the priest, and then you. "Wh-wh-where am I? The naga? Sh-she... my chest." She looks weakly down at the scar.
Theldrin feels a wave of relief and gratitude pass over him as he sees Toska regain consciousness. He put his hand gently on her shoulder, and gives her a warm smile. "Welcome back, my friend."
Xanrym sits quietly in the chapel and watches the ritual with rapt attention. He jots down a few notes for later. When Toska finally sits up, he bolts up and joyfully cries, "Toska! You're alive! Praise Fharlanghn!" He moves quickly to Toska and takes her hands in his. He reassures her quietly, just keeping his voice going to give her something to focus on: "It's OK. There's no danger. You're safe now. Don't worry. Just rest a moment. Catch your breath." He continues like that until the initial shock of Toska's resurrection fades.
Once Strider Silvain is back on his feet, he thanks the cleric. Xanrym just gives Toska the barest details. Yes, she was...."struck down" in the fight with the naga, but the group was able to defeat that monster -- thanks to her help. The group never gave up hope for Toska. Strider Silvain, a high priest of Fharlanghn, has just raised her from the dead. Xanrym introduces Strider Silvain and (if she's there) Vinme to Toska. Finally, Xanrym says, "It appears that Saint Cuthbert still had work for you to do in Oerth and wasn't quite ready for you to join him in the Bastion of Law. Fharlanghn has helped you return from that farthest horizon, but you should rest now."
Xanrym thanks Strider Silvain again. He was awed by this display of divine power -- even more than he was by Bigby's teleportation portal! Xanrym was serious when he told Vinme that he has an affiinity for Fharlanghn, and if Strider Silvain isn't too tired, he asks some casual questions about the tenets of the religion. (Or maybe he could direct those questions to Dariel and Ayana if Silvain needs to rest.) Xanrym is a bard and does not want to take holy orders, but he's interested in what being a faithful follower of Fharlanghn entails.
But as soon as she's ready to be moved, Xanrym suggests giving Toska a ride in the cart, either back to the temple of Saint Cuthbert or to their inn, so that she can rest. He thinks that the Company should stay in the Free City for a few days so that they can keep an eye on Toska, ensure that she recovers fully, and answer any questions she has. Now that they've paid for Toska's resurrection, the Company can finally divide the remaining treasure from the naga's lair, and everyone can do some shopping. They can also spend some time just seeing the Free City and discuss where the Company should go next.
(OOC: I assume that now that we've saved Toska, Liarin will take her share of the treasure, part ways with the Company, and leave the city.)
