(OOC: Putting together a list of items we may want to purchase: I'm thinking some healing potions, comprehend languages, maybe one or 2 +1 shields, anything else we want as a party? (we have approximately 2000gp). Prices:
that sounds good to me, if I take a +1 shield, could help keep the cleric alive, and shes not a bad tank). Scroll of comprehend languages, potion of healing.
"These maps are not for sale, good sir. These are proprietary and entrusted to you as agents of my employ. Your band is not the first to seek me and shan't be the last, I imagine.
It is a pity we coukd not make a deal. In spite, I do wish you luck in your pursuit. Please note, my offer still stands, open to any who would wish to claim it. Your honorable bent is admirable, a trait seen all to rarely in this world."
Turning to the modron, rhe gnome finsihes, "Gearbox, return to yorr work. But first, destroy the map."
Gearbox, obviously disappointed, returns to his station, obediently answering the cartophile "Yes, sir," in a sullen tone. He then engages a hitherto unseen mechanism. Within his mouth, a rolling, slicing shredding apparatus is fed the newly drawn map, snipping it to ribbons as it falls onto the cavity within the modrons small frame, the shredder falling silent and retracting again with the task complete.
"Good day, adventurers," Anaxi says as he returns to his office, calling behind him, "Garret, see to any other matters they may have if should they require further assistance."
"Of course, Mr. Xephries." The twifling replies. To the part he asks, "Will there be anything else?"
Sparhawk walks out, raising his hands, but leaves the coin purse on the table (10gp)
"Alright, a few more stops and we are off then."
After they have left the establishment, "Well, we have my two maps, and he did show us his and made some corrections, so if our memories hold, we should be able to find the location without too much trouble. Besides, I'm hoping Cha!jil, you are well versed in the lands of Chult.
I'm sorry, but the things he asked were far too great a price and risk. I no longer work for merchants, the amount he offered for the journal was quite suspicious, In fact, I believe had we returned with the journal, he would have had us killed. I serve a higher purpose as I sense you do as well, and the less we involve others in our affairs, the better."
(Purchase a +1 shield, 4 potions of healing, a scroll of comprehend languages, and if it works on the map, ie, a river north, a row boat. OOC: Anyone want to do anything else prior to us leaving?)
Nothing good ever comes easy; if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. 20000!!!
wouldnt allow zone of truth, indicates deception
1. It's not easy. You just said you might not make it back alive, which is, to all appearances, the case for all of your predecessors.
This is also a pretty lowball price for an artifact.
2. Showing up at someone's place and casting spells unannounced is enough to get you killed in more hostile environs, but in politely society, it just isn't done.
(Sorry, Against my paladin code, certainly other ways to achieve objectives that don’t involve a mercenary bent that prays on greed, I think our group going more for save the world. Oh wells. No regrets.
It's not a punishment or anything, it's actually more game, which is good, imo.it just ratchets up the difficulty, which unlocks more opportunities for more points, it's a pretty clever foul forward system they built. And it's just for fun, the point is font really matter. I won't be announcing all the pok ts as we go, just this once to give some indication of what kinds of things are being counted.
“Right, let’s find some shops that will sell us a few potions and scrolls. Then a weapon or armor shop for perhaps a magic shield. Then, we can pay our respects to Mother Sibonseni and be on our way.”
The half orc paladin may take some getting used to, but his goals and motives seem quite clear.
Cha!jil simply trotted along after the others not particularly understanding why they wanted to drag even more weight through the humidity and heat but willing to let them make their own choices.
She already knew where they were going and had a couple of possible routes in her head so simply nodded to Sparhawk and cast the strange metal creature and the rest of it from her thoughts.
" You want animal? To carry all this.......stuff?"
" Both forest, rain and open, and mountains....its a hard one......Hadrosaurs are sturdy beasts but not so good at heights, you'd be wanting something with good traction and a low centre of gravity.....Ankylosaur maybe........a Theropod would be more dextrous but they cost a fortune to feed and can turn on you if your not careful....maybe a smaller Ceratopsian..."
She shrugged.
" Up to you mob.....but we should get a wiggle on if your meaning to get out of the Port today."
Buying specialty items requires dealing (directly or indirectly) with appropriate Merchant Princes.
Ekene-Afa (female Chultan human)
Deals in weapons, shields, traveling gear, rain catchers, saddles, wagons, and canoes and shields made of wooden frames with layers of reptile hide stretched over them. Ekene-Afa pays Wakanga O’tamu to place permanent enchantments on a select few of these items, which she sells.
Wakanga O’tamu (male Chultan human mage)
The only arcane spellcaster among the merchant princes. He’s a long-time friend of Syndra Silvane, and he’s something of a dandy who’s easily seduced by smart women — or perhaps that’s only a carefully constructed public image.
Wakanga deals in knowledge, information, lost lore, potions, and scrolls. Wakanga has a monopoly on these items in Port Nyanzaru, so characters either pay his prices or go without. As much as he wants to help, he’s unlikely to extend credit; all purchases must be in coin, gemstones, or jewelry.
Ifan Talro’a (male Chultan human noble) is a greedy, conniving man supported by influential and dangerous friends among the Zhentarim. He is jealous of Wakanga O’tamu’s magical power and Ekene-Afa’s reputation from the arena. Talro’a sells animals that can be trained as mounts or pets, including dinosaurs and flying monkeys.
Ifan has no family and no close relationships. He is naturally distrustful of everyone.
Ifan Talro’a employs dozens of merchants throughout Port Nyanzaru who sell domesticated beasts that can be used as companions, mounts, or pack animals.
Flying monkey, giant lizard, or hadrosaurus 100 gp
Ankylosaurus, deinonychus, or flying snake* 250 gp
Triceratops 500 gp
*Flying snakes trained as messengers are popular with the Zhentarim, and Talro’a sells them to no one else.
Or you could try the black market, but assuming you haven't abetted any of the Merchant princes, there's not much point.
<merchant prince NPCs are roleplay opportunities, but if your just buying goods at cost, we can skip it. The princes you purchase from will know of your purchase>
Tess watches all of this with interest, but doesnt weigh in further on the discussion.

Tess watches in a bit of shock at the destruction of the map. “I am sure you would have been useful, Gearbox. Perhaps another time.”
Ooc:
No, you just lost. You literally lost points. Tournament rules.

Just outside the shop you're met with the Shou market, where you can get all of the mundane things you'd like to purchase. If there are any.
For.fhe magical.itema, specific parties control tbe movement kf these wares within the city walls.

(In the interest in speeding things along, I suggest we obtain a +1 shield fast play, 500gold
then pay Wakanga a visit to obtain more lore, clues, info and potions/ scrolls prior to our departure. (Role play this piece)
