i will act as adventure guide/ player. The only modification to the other setup is no separate recruitment thread. On your first post just include your character sheet link at the top as you introduce your character to the scene.
You all start in the town of Knockon Wood. It's a small village that is home to about 200 full time residents who live in town, with several dozen more families in the outlying forest. During “adventure “ season 1 or 2 thousand people annually come temporarily either to seek adventure or to sell goods to adventurers. Knockon Wood is more of a tourist, or adventure town than anything else. It has a variety of shops selling equipment, magical items, and weaponry; many guides who use their experience to guide newer adventurers, for a cost of course; and an impressively opulent tavern known as “ the Flatulent Marionette” used by nearly all the adventurers who pass through. The Mayor of Knockon Wood is a retired old druid named Dream Leaf who is rarely seen.
Shops:
The village has a wide variety of shops for adventuring supplies, weaponry, and normal wares such as clothes and food. To buy anything for sale simply post describing your character going shopping and what you are buying. Then simply deduct the appropriate amount of money from your character sheet and add the item. Honor system will be used here, please don't cheat and add something you didn't buy to your character sheet.
When shopping assume you can find any mundane items that cost 1,000 gp or less, which can all be bought at the price given in the equipment section of the PHB. If you wish to buy something that costs between 1,001 and 5,000 gp, roll a d20. On a roll of 6 - the number of thousands the item costs, you are able to find the item and it can be bought at normal price. Otherwise, you cannot find it for sale. If you have a failed role, you cannot role again until you finish an adventure in the forest of wonders.
If you wish to shop for magic items, roll three times on the below table (a modified version of magic item table B from the DMG) to generate a stock of magic items. Consumables have a stock of 1d4+1 items. Then you can buy them for a price as calculated by this handy website: https://www.kassoon.com/dnd/5e/magic-item-prices/ (it's also in the XGtE I believe)
Tavern:
the Flatulent Marionette tavern lies at the center of the town. It provides rooms for 1sp a night, and meals for 50cp. It has a tap room spreading 100 feet across, providing plenty of room for talking, eating, preforming, and more. All people all welcome in the tavern, and while weapons are allowed in it tavern brawls are discouraged by a pair of experienced looking dragonborn veterans. It is a great place to discuss or form into adventuring groups. Menu: drink: Mudd (strong, slightly thick whiskey) 1sp per shot, Meade 10cp, Wine 10cp meal : random meat of the day ( freshly kilt by adventurers like yourselves) and tubers and mushrooms 50cp
meat of the night: 1d6 1- beef 2- Chicken 3- Pork 4- Tastes like chicken 5- undetermined 6- Venison
Other Town Features:
Knockon Wood has many other features. It hosts a small observatory, which can be used for a fee of 10 gp, a public library which contains a reasonable amount of scrolls, books, tomes, and strange contraptions. Weapons are not allowed in the library. In addition, the village has a multi-purpose shrine to most of the major deities, along with a few representatives of some crafting guilds. There is also a quickly growing cemetery in clearing just outside of town with an active mortician, for a fee of 50 gp you can reserve a plot and coffin for proper and honored burial complete with service and headstone. Those who die and did not preplan can be interred in the mass grave pit of not left to the wilds to consume.
Finally, Knockon Wood hosts an annual festival/ tournament of skills, including art, marksmanship, duels (not to the death though!) I will create a separate thread for the tourney with more specific rules when than comes around).
Characters should be lvl 3 basic starting equip + 300gp .Have your background on your character sheet, and reveal naturally via RP as appropriate during the adventures.
Salt Peet enters the town of Knockon Wood, excited to try land based adventure. He had heard at his last port that this is the place to be at this time of year. Fortune to be made, names to be earned in the mystical wonderous woods.. first things first, he heads straight to the tavern to secure a room before they are all taken and partake of the fine food and drink.
He laughs heartily at the name of the tavern, “ The Flatulent Marionette.”
“ Ha hah, a farting puppet…goods name, very spectable, “ he says as he enters into the large food hall. The interior of the tavern is well lit with oil lamp chandeliers and there are disturbing wooden puppets or varying sizes and shapes displayed all around. Even thus early in the day, the tavern is filled with folks from all across the world, looking to make their fortune or at least have fun trying. Peets red and black scales would stand out like a sore thumb if he wasn’t so small, and nobody pays him much attention.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Salt Peet approaches what appears to be the owner or at least manager of the place, a plump human wearing alpine garb ( liederhosen) and crawl up onto a barstool to inquire about a room and some foods.
“ a big hallo to you mister, have some rooms for sleeping and some foods for eating?” He will ask. The owner will respond in the affirmative, and pulls out a list of available rooms and alternative spaces for rent. Peet will chose a small space in the basement, it seems they have had his kind stay before. Looks safe and cozy and just the right size. He quickly hands over 1sp and 50cp for the room and the meal. meat type: 4.
Looks like pork chops and carrots for dinner. Peet is very, very pleased with his meal as he looks around at all the tough looking adventures people enjoying their food. He has never had real pork served in this manner.
a rather large man makes his way into town, stops the first person he see's - Pardon me, looking for the local inn? after getting directions he wanders around making mental note of the shops he passes until he arrives, Ah, the The Flatulent Marionette? I don't get it. He steps inside. A large man, nearly 6'2, 275ish pounds, more like 300 if you ask some, and hee wears most it around his middle. Handsomely dress in gray/green pants, white shirt, flowing green over coat, back pack, small packs here an there, scroll cases and a walking stick. He makes his way to a table, settles his gear and orders a meal and mead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A buxom serving maid named Gwen takes your order. “ That’ll be 60 cp for the Meal an Meade, The meal will be something what tastes like chicken with rice and carrots.” She tells ya.
Little salt Peet will eyeball the large man who entered and surmise he must be a giant. He quickly realizes it would be a great idea to have a Giant as a partner and will bring his plate over and say “ Mr Giant man, wants to eat togethers? I am new here , how bout you?”
Since it is still early enough in the day, Salt Peet will see if the big man wishes to take a quick look about town before a quick exploratory jaunt into the forest.
A strong, musky odor interrupts the fine scent of roasted meats alcohol as a burly grey skinned dwarf enters the Flatulent Marionette, laughing at the crude name and the image of a stringed puppet passing gas…He isnt shy nor quite on his entrance and he looks as if he has already been in the forest for a long, long time. He announces his name to nobody in particular and orders himself a meal and something strong to drink..
“ Hah! You have been blessed this day, as I Dungho Dave, fearless crawled of the darkest reaches of the forests, have now graced your presence. Serving gal, bring me something deeelicous and a shit or two of that stuff called mud.” He says with a flourish.
He spots a strange little black and red kobold trying to converse with a rock gnome and will take seat at that table. The shorter folk need to stick together…
” How in the heck are you two fine gentlemen this evenin?”
Not seeming to get anywhere with the big guy, Salt Peet sees another short legs enter the tavern. This one may be more talkable.
” Howdy new friend, you minds I sit?” He says as he approaches the gnome drinking some ale. “ I ams new here, you too? “
Erdon turns to see who's talking, "Hiya. The name is Erdon and you might be? By the looks of it a fellow crafter perhaps. Don't mind the steel defender he's friendly and doesn't get upset unless I'm in trouble. Yeah, I'm new here and looking to see about getting into a business here and do some adventuring to get the parts I need to make stuff for others."

Erdon turns to the other individual smiling, "Dungho, well met my friend. The name is Erdon. So, us three it be unless the other one over there comes around."
Erdon finishes his meade and wipes his mouth with his sleeve.
"I'm doing pretty good. I've got an itch to do some exploring and make a name for myself in this town. I named my metal friend here DeDe for Destructive Defender. I'll be ready when you folks are."
Salt Peet will light up at the introduction of DeDe and immediately begin to look it over, keeping his hands or himself with great restraint.
” ooooh, so shiny, so great! You a master crafted for sure, “ Peet says delightedly. He will then pull out a small wind up copper chicken of sort of crude construction, along with a small vial of some liquid. “ watch Peets small marvel” he says as he pours a little liquid into a small opening on the chickens back, just a few drops. He then twists the little key disguised as its tail feathers and the chicken begin to wobble about the table, occasionally pecking the table top like its eating. After a moment it will raise its head like it is going to crow and out bursts a flame, which burns out quickly…
” not as great as DeDe, but Peet most make concoctions and splody stuff. We can be great partners of ventures.”
Erdon bows to Salt Peet, "That's a nice little chicken you got there. I'm a Battle Smith specialty craftsman. Part of it is learning to build a Steel Defender. So far I haven't had to test out our combined skills in combat. Not that I'm looking for combat mind you. I just like being prepared. I've got a lot of learning to do. Maybe we all can do that together maybe a fourth too."
"It might just be you and I though Salt Peet. I'm guessing you specialized in Alchemist. The right potion at the right time can turn the tide most likely."

Erdon Crafty's Character Sheet - D&D Beyond (dndbeyond.com)
Erdon Crafty a rock gnome with some crafting skills comes into town. He heads for the tavern to purchase a beverage to wash the dust down his throat.
"Interesting name for a tavern I suppose." A soft chuckle, "Let's go see what's going on." He's aware he's talking to himself at least halfway.
He finds a table and gets asks for an ale and pays the 10cp.
"MMMmmm not too bad. Thank ya."
