DuHast: Cordelia seems to accept your apology, though remains ever so subtly wary of you. But she thanks you graciously for the tip. And you were able to copy and or effectively memorize the map.
(Haha, shall I assume that's a joke for having some odd change on top of your gold? ;) Or does the adventure begin the next morning with an interesting chat from the Sherriff?)
((LOL. Thia will have to be reminded when she does her turns at watch if it is not the same every night. Can foresee some fun with this depending on how it is explained to her. ::chuckles:: And I already have ideas of what she might try if she finds out you beat up an innocent person including fun things on the side.))

The next morning you take off, after your shopping spreed and managing to avoid any fallout from Karas' drunken brawl over some spare coins for the moment. You've been marching westward for about 6 hours. The terrain easily blends together, but DuHast's keen mind for geography keeps you on track. The last two, when the sun is high in the sky have been particularly brutal.
Make me two constitution saving throws for this particularly hot stretch.
As you begin to reach the last of the farmlands and begin to ascend the stone-speckled slopes you hear the sound of an anguished roar in the distance. As you come a bit closer you come across the sight of a bear caught in a trap. The bear whimpers sadly as it struggles against the trap. As the party comes into sight the bear momentarily ceases it’s struggles and whimpers and stares at them with fear and suspicion.
(15 and a 7, not much luck too on the second roll.)
Karas stares at the bear for a second then inquires if anyone needs some more food as he reaches for his blades.
Then he laughs awkwardly as some of the more.... good characters eye him and he reluctantly tries to open the trap. (thieves' tools, rolled an 18, taking into account my sleight of hand prof and my base Dex)
Kalkano watches Karas as he works on the trap but wants to scan the area in case the people that placed the trap are hiding nearby, but is too distracted by the sight of Karas appearing to save the bear. (crit failed perception check, again. That makes 3 Natural 1s for me so far)
The bear growls at you threateningly as you approach it. Give me a stealth check if you wish to circle around behind it and work the lock without it noticing. Or animal handling if you wish to try and calm it. Or I'll have to calculate what level of penalties picking the lock while being mauled by a bear entails. ;)
OOC: Long hours at work today so a little late in responding.
Con checks: 3 and 19 (rollz is cursed worse then my real dice)
DuHast is going to try and distract the bear from the opposite direction Karas is going. Hopefully that will give him some type of advantage when performing his skill checks.
((I don't want to harm the bear if I don't have too. So I am staying visible but non threatening. Just trying to get the bear to watch me instead of anyone else.))
Everyone be mindful we might encounter some trappers or some orcs this far out.
You circle around behind the bear while Du'Hast attracts it's wary eye. Almost in reach of the trap release mechanism a twig snaps under your foot. Leading to a tense pregnant moment. But ultimately the bear seems not to notice, too distracted by pain and Du'Hast. You make quick work of the mechanism.
Once freed: The bear looks at you with something resembling the capacity for gratitude then runs off as quickly as it can with its injured leg. Then suddenly an arrow zips over your heads. Glancing in the direction it came from, you see a hulven man dressed in green drab arising from behind a rock with his bow drawn, aiming it at you threateningly.
“So, you’re the lot who’ve been freeing all our catches. Throw all your weapons to the ground and turn around and start walking, we’re taking you to see the sheriff.”
Karas stares the man over. "You get out of our way. The Legion of Dread and Death does not take kindly to the likes of you. Back off, and I might spare you. If not, I DEFINITELY will not spare you. Leave! If you ever cause trouble again, I will find your family, and I will subject them to the most brutal and inhumane torture. Begone!" (Intimidate roll = 19, and I use the ready action. If he fires, I dive roll and shank the [CENSORED] in the gut. Dive roll - 15, attack rolls - 17, 22, damage rolls - 8, 5. Poor sap is gonna die.)
Thia rolls her eyes in exasperation. "Maybe if you had shot it when you saw it in your trap before we got to see it, this would not be an issue. Also, I could care less if you are trapping out here or not. However, now that they decided it should be released just because it was alive and there," she points to the trap, "while you obviously watched the whole time, I'm not sure what to think of you. Letting the thing suffer just in case someone bumbles along in this heat. I'm not out here to save animals. I'm out here heading to do something else. Either you can let us go do what we were sent to do, which has nothing to do with your traps, or we have a bigger mess on our hands. And his threats are real, but we could not have that greater mess, but it is now your choice." ((Persuasion roll - 18))
Hopes she gets the guy to lower his weapon, but knows she looks like a scrawny, limp rag due to the heat and feels overly flushed. Getting all that out just gives her a headache, too.
((If he shoots, she'll wait to see if Karas takes care of him or any of the others and then slap Sacred Flame on him to let him know what real heat is.))

Sorry forgot to mention he has two compatriots armed with similar weapons and attire.
But they look intimidated by Karas's threats. Lowering their weapons, looking to avoid a fight.
They seem a bit more engaged by Thia's tone. "I admit, it's not exactly the best of options. But we've little choice. Someone has been making out with our catches for months now. We've. Got families to feed. We had to do something to catch the culprits."

Oh forgot, Karas also beat up a commoner and stole his 5 sp 3 cp.
Current balance: 56 gp 3 sp 5 cp
Karas then dashes back to the store and buys 5 bedrolls for everyone.

Karas returns with a loaded pack and his pockets not very full after it all. And now, for the assignments of sleeping quarters.
Karas + Thia, Du'Hast + Kalkano, Wilrick - guard duty
rotate starting from Karas until Kalkano, then Wilrick again. The second day should look like Thia + Du'Hast, Kalkano + Wilrick, Karas - guard duty.

Kalanko and Thia suffer one level of exhaustion.
