"Your hospitality is overwhelming, I apologize for taking advantage of it. We shall see our way out so that you can find that precious time you've seemed to have misplaced." Kayn nods to the others and ushers them out of the benevolent Mayor's office.
Once everyone is outside, Kayn proposes, "Shall we meet at the gates in an hour? There are a few supplies I need to acquire before we set off."
An hour later Kayn returns to the group with an ass in tow. "Allow me to introduce our Mule Accustomed to Encumbrance, or Mae for short. She'll help in carrying any loot we may find from the Orc's camp." He pets her cheeks and gives her a kiss on her mouth, "Won't you sweetie? Who's a good ass? You're a good ass!" His voice as he speaks to the mule is an eerie copy of the Mayor's to the point where you could swear the mayor were speaking rather than Kayn.
The Sparrow calmly received the satchel of coins and ticked it away, and reservedly listened on as the others continued to chatter and repeat sentiments. He could already tell that he had a loooong week or so ahead of him.
"Thank you you for granting this mission to us, madam. I apologize for my companions'... lack of social tact, but I can assure that your will be done." He sighed as he left Maeralya's office and thought to himself. 'At least, I hope the Dragons' grant us the ability to do so...'
The group decided to split up to gather supplies and meetup at the gates, which was at least solid organization. The Sparrow made his way to equipment shop and used some of his own money to purchase a second case of crossbow bolts and a map of the local area. . He figured it would be more polite (and less time-consuming) than forcing a villager to make change for a platinum piece. Satisfied with his simplistic purchase, he made his way to the gates and began to study the map to get a feel for the local landmarks.
[OOC: Acquired 50 gp! Spent 2gp and obtained a Case of 20 additional Crossbow Bolts and a Map Case]
Having left before the others, Yvertal quickly goes about gathering supplies he sees necessary while slightly brooding over how generally awful that meeting was, even for how short it really was.
In all his years of being with the Horizon Walker's he did his best to be assigned with as few people as possible, now having to be assigned with a group such as this? Most of them weren't that bad, the genasi, Gwyn she had introduced herself as, seemed to be of her right mind, same with the one in the mask and possibly the quite dragonborn as well. He worried though about that Kayn, him and his goddamned tongue might get us into some troubling situations. The meeting would have gone much faster in the first place should he have kept from prattling on and trying to provoke the mayor, a move that could hurt our future dealing with the town as a whole. Also that roguish woman seems fairly daft overall and is only focused on the pay, hopefully that focus will make sure she doesn't cause any unneeded trouble.
Though he had to also realize his own mistakes. He had let Kayn get to him, after barely a few words even, almost causing many more problems for himself and possibly the others. He would have to be cautious about future confrontations with him or he might lose control again. Even after years of training it's still difficult for him to keep that voice from popping up every so often when he least expects it.
After gathering all he needed, Yvertal snaps himself out of this brooding, there was a job to be done and he wasn't gonna let one off meeting keep him off his game. This is what he does, day in and day out, he wasn't gonna let some sly spoken minstrel get to him, he was gonna go and and make sure those people come back safe and make sure the orc savages are taken care of. He arrives at the gate a few minutes before others arrive and rests for a few minutes.
In response to Kayn he says unamused, "Seems like the ass has bought an ass of his own." Once everyone else arrives he says,"Everyone supplied and ready to leave? Should take a couple days by foot so should any of you need last minute supplies best hurry up."
(OOC: Yvertal buys an extra 50 bullets for 25gp, A healer's kit for 5gp, A bag of caltrops for 1gp, A whetstone for 1cp, 10 days rations for 5gp, and a dagger for 2gp for a grand total of 38gp and 1cp)
"One day, Yvertal, I hope we can become the best of friends." Kayn stands from being crouched next to Mae and gives her a scratch on her ear, "But first you will have to pull that stick from your own ass." Kayn then whinnys at Yvertal, causing Mae to whinny as well, "It sounds like Mae agrees."
As they wait for the others, Kayn begins filling up the saddlebags with some of his non-essentials and turns back to the brooding Yvertal, "I am familiar with the roads around here but don't have much experience navigating the wild-lands. Since the majority of guides I've had the pleasure of knowing have been brooding and angry all the time, I assume you're the acting guide?"
"Look, I get it, you're the kind of guy that just talks and talks until you get what you want. You twist people's words to your own end. I get it, different people different attitudes. That doesn't mean I have to enjoy it. Especially when you're going around acting like a jackass, wasting people's time and disrespecting those who keep things in check."
Leaning on the wall he lets out a sigh to calm himself down. "As for the who's the guide, I don't come here that much so I'm not particularly well-versed in the geography of this area. Best ask someone else."

"You're very close, Mr. Yvertal, but my words are merely a conduit for something greater. As all words are, I supposed." He looks over to The Sparrow, "Our friend there knows. There's power in words and it's not necessarily the words spoken that reveal that power, but the intention behind them." He turns back to Yvertal, "You're too quick to trust those in power. The mayor could be a tyrant in disguise and you've merely fallen into her trap."
"Are you a tyrant, Mae?" Kayn turns back to his mule, "Do you plan nefarious deeds using dimwitted adventurers as pawns?" He pats her head.
The Sparrow found himself wishing he could understand what the mule was actually saying, but he refused to let that bother him. "It would be greatly appreciated if you'd stop antagonizing each other," the gnome proclaimed as he stood up and walked over to them. "Every individual in an army has a role to play in the war, even if it is just cleaning up the mess afterwards. It just so happens that Kayn's role is decidedly not social interaction." He opened up the map and held out for them as far as his little gnome arms could. "Besides, this should be of great help for the guide, whoever that may be."
"Your hospitality is overwhelming, I apologize for taking advantage of it. We shall see our way out so that you can find that precious time you've seemed to have misplaced." Kayn nods to the others and ushers them out of the benevolent Mayor's office.

His voice as he speaks to the mule is an eerie copy of the Mayor's to the point where you could swear the mayor were speaking rather than Kayn.
Kayn looks down at the gnome and back to the Aasamar, "Well I can see when I'm not wanted. I have my mule and my bags packed and I'm sure I won't be missed in this lil mission, so I'm going to go ahead and take my leave. Perhaps we'll see each other in the next town." He pulls the lead on the mule to indicate she (he) should follow, "Come along Mae, we have more important business to attend to."
Kayn exits the gate and makes his way down the road that wraps around North of the town.
"W-wait, what?" The Sparrow was flabbergasted. He had attempted to fill the rift between the two, at least temporarily, but... it would seem that he had the exact opposite effect. The clash between the two had apparently gone too far already, and Kayn clearly wanted no part in that. At east, that's what the gnome hoped his reason for leaving was. Surely he couldn't be running from the idea o fighting orcs now, right?
He took a deep breath and regained his composure. "Can't say I saw that one coming when it did... Though, I'm sure most of us would be thinking 'good riddance.'" As he shook his head, another thought came to him. "And he took off with part of the reward money. It's probably best that we don't report this with the real Maeralrya, not yet."
Yvertal doesn't look as Kayn leaves. He honestly was more frustrated with his leaving than anything. One man down on a mission that already might be fairly dangerous.
"I'd have to agree, didn't think he'd up and leave like that. Maybe it's for the best, he seemed the type to get us into unnecessary trouble, whether on accident or on purpose." He lets out a sigh.
"Though now that he's gone we're down a man. That might make this whole mission more difficult. As for the mayor, we can just tell her the truth once we come back. She might even think that the orcs scared him off."

Gwyn went back to the tavern where she had been staying, collecting what few belongings she had left in her room there. A few bar flies informed her that they would miss her drunken stories, but the rogue was sure to tell them that she would back before they could even miss her. The genasi didn't need much else to prepare for the journey ahead, as she was used to living on the road.
However, Gwyn got sidetracked easily, and spent just a little too much time at the tavern saying her goodbyes. As a result, she was among the last to join back up with the rest of the group. "Are we ready to go?" she laughed airily, not really noticing the awkward tension until after the words had blown out of her mouth. Realization dawned on her, as the windsoul noticed the absent party member. Wearing her emotions on her sleeve, the other party members could see her cycle through a series of emotions rapidly. Eventually, she landed on content resignation. "So, Kayn ran off with his gold then? Well, we don't need him."
"I sure hope we don't." The Sparrow shook his head, then continued in a more purposeful tone. "Do keep in mind that despite their average stupidity, most orcs do have solid combat training. Are you absolutely certain you have all the equipment you need? One of the last things we want to to be caught ill-prepared." Of course, he expected everyone who had already gathered to be fully prepared, but never hurt to go through the motions.
Isshkar decides not to get anything from the shops around the small town but goes and takes a look around it. after about half an hour he decides to go to the gate and notices Yvertal there with sparrow. he walks up to them both and asks "has anyone else arrived?" he wonders about the others thinking about what stores they might be in
"So your scouts are like children. Odd way of handling assets..." Kayn takes a step closer, "Have you misplaced something?"
