Once done with her rest, Fianna stands, dusts the dirt from herself, and repeats the Find Familiar ritual. Once that is complete she walks back to where she left the others. During the short walk Fi'Fanella fills her in on what the scouting trip revealed.
Mirica was too wrapped up in the interrogation - an unpleasant and unusual role for her - that she did not even understood Chen's sudden extrapolation. She was in the middle of her last question to Ezhia "Does the magic disturbance affect the dragon as well?" when Jahren declared his departure. "It might be harder to honor your request if we are down one man during the fight with the dragon. As unlikely group as we are, I believe we still have the same goal - to rid this place of the evil that threatens more than that region, even. Would you truly leave us right before the battle?"
If Chen released his grip on Ezhia she would add, addressing the snake-man: "You have your three days. Go now."
Ezhia does not need to be told twice. He flinches in the face of the huge golden warrior as his angry visage faces him...and then turns and runs off. He glances back several times, watching both the group and the half-elf on the flying carpet as if expecting fiery magic or arrows to slay him before he can get out of site.
As his quiet movements fade away, Tic, Jezun, Mirica and Chen are left watching Jahren's form gets smaller and smaller as he slowly vanishes over the tree line on his magical carpet. Tic sighs.
The minutes tick by as the four stand about in awkward silence waiting for Fianna to return. Toc appears nearby nearly fifteen minutes later. "She's fine. She's just summoning her familiar." He glances around, then glances into the sky. He sighs heavily letting his eyes close for a moment. "Damn."
He glances at Jezun, Mirica, and Chen. "Well....I am sorry if my words made up his mind....I really didn't expect him to leave so close to the dragon. He was doing such good work in Hillsfar. This will be more difficult without him." He glances around noting the other absent person. "You let Ezhia go it seems? That's ok." It's always tough to read faces, but you think the "I'll find him and kill him later" seems to be implied.
"Well...what do we do now? Are we still going to scout this place, do we think five of us are up to the task? Six if we count Tic. Making note of the magic we've already expended today."
Jezun makes sure, either before or after Chen's exhortation to Ezhia, to swoop in close to say that should he breathe a word of SinSin or his students to anyone else, or take any action against him, he would not stop until justice was served, unless Chen got to him first. "If anything happens to him, I'm holding you personally responsible."Then he smiles and waves.
He's utterly befuddled at Jahren's departure. "I'm still learning how this group does things. I guess you are too. I think that SinSin was right -- you do need my help. I've been observing too much until now. I'll stop now. Maybe we need to talk more to get on the same page before we do things, to avoid disagreements like that. Jahren seemed nice. I hope he comes back. I don't think I left the oven on, no. We have to deal with this. But if the dragon knows we're coming, and wants to kill us, then what could we do to even the scales? I wish we could do that ghostwalking thing Jahren can do -- she probably wouldn't expect that, and we could avoid coming the direction she'd expect. I bet she has friends down there. Could we get her to come out? Or trick her another way? Or cause an earthquake to collapse her lair?" He looks up to the sky, tapping his lip with his finger, the first bit of fidgeting you've seen from the otherwise placid monk.
"This like you said, Toc, you have a way with words and with people."She did not comment any more on the event but concentrated on the dragon-hunt.
"Do not think we can simply postpone the fight. Now, that we are here and the dragon knows the city failed to capture us, she can attack the city. There is enough power there that she would not completely destroy it, but many will die and with unrest already happening casualties will be high. We have to stop her now."
"As for even the odds... That depends how magic will work. The beast is poisonous and can emanate fear, stunning the victims, like snakes do. There is a way to ward us against it, but we might want to step aside, so, that the magic would not be twisted by the place. If we do so - give me an hour and we will be safe from those effects. The rest depends of our blades mostly, I'm afraid. Figuratively speaking."
"Demons wrapped in amber. Held in time but alive and eyes still aglow with evil. Glabrezu, Nalfashnee, and Nabasuu four... Below them a shimmering field a Mythal... Deeper still the blades with and dance, snickety snack!" Fianna intones in a soft, distracted tone as she returns to the group. ((Whenever that is. I'm sure they still have time to discuss, plan, whatever before Fianna is back.))
"Oh, we're missing some people," She notes, her tone more bubbly and conversational. "They looking for another way in? Cause this one does not seem safe! Whoever led us here did not have our well being in mind..."
Fi'Fanella invisibly sits upon Fianna's shoulder and blows a raspberry at the entire situation...
Fianna comes wandering back a little while later. The five companions quickly share each's pieces of information.....both about the dragon, and Ezhia, and Jahren, and the results of the scouting, and soon everyone is "up to speed".
Toc turns to Mirica, "So, it seems that the dragon's cave is beneath the Mythal, which means we can't rely on any effects from here to affect the situation."
"Ezhia was talking to the dragon since we captured him? Who knew he was such a deceptive, dangerous little sleaze? Huh!" Fianna says in mock surprise. "Hopefully Jahren watches his back..."
"Speaking of watching out for oneself... Do we really want to do this? Climb past demons and mithral and traps unknown so as to face off again a dragon, who is expecting us, in their own lair? Does that seem wise?" Fianna asks. "Our only assurance the dragon is here is Ezhia, who is a wee bit unreliable. And if communicating with it he surely led us to the most dangerous entrance. And did he even say which dragon it is down there? Do we even trust him on that?"
"A feast does sound brilliant, though!" She adds brightly.
"It means we have to move to the area without Mythal to get it and then come back. Should not be that much of a problem. And while on it - can we check the main entrance? Can we deduce it's location?"
Chen remembers their last battle with demons and shudders a little at the thought of more. Do you think these demons are controlled by the dragon? he asks.
The magical feast sounds particularly enticing to the every-hungry dragonborn, and he continues to probe Mirica and Toc for ways they might be able to partake safely prior to facing the dragon. Maybe Fianna could wall us off from danger while we sup? Can we skip into Mirica's safe-place and eat there before the fight?
In any case, it sounds like they might have to fight their way past some demons first.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
"I do not think I could create a Room of Force large enough for us to be comfortable? (Well 20x20 and ten foot high room, no flooring...) What I can do wouldn't lest the length of a full feat though." ((10mins))
"As for the demons... they are encased in what seems to be amber. I do not believe it accidental. I do not believe they are dead. But they could be trapped... Or be a trap. Both could be true even."
Toc looks about at the strange effect of the Mythal around them, "I'd suggest we get out of the city and the Mythal. Then, from there, I can take us to a safe place for a while to rest and eat this feast. It'll save Fianna the magic for later. She may need it. It's not as luxurious as Mirica's realm, by far, are even as the mansion, but it'll do."
The group trudges out of the ruins, with Fi'Finella keeps an eye on things from above. The do end up encounter two small devils, but the creatures flee into the ruins rather than engage in combat.
Once outside of the city, and then the Mythal, Toc has you all holds hands. He mutters a few words and then you all feel the unsettling sensations of breaking the barriers of reality, appearing in a 30 foot by 30 foot room with stone walls. There appear to be no way out. Beds are setup around the room, six of them, and a large table with some benches. There is a large barrel of water, a smaller barrel of wine, and a small supply of dried food stuffs.
"Shall we partake of this feast I've heard so much about?"
Mirica begins her spell, and soon a wondrous feast begins appearing on the table. Flasks of red wine, jugs of beer and mead, crystal decanters of pure cold water all appear, along with food...steaming, hot, delicious looking food of all sorts. There are baked beans, warm dinner rolls, roasted side of ham cut into thick slices, fried sausages with crackled skin, fried sliced potatoes, broccoli with a light salty glaze....there are lovely sandwiches with all manner of fillings, a few bundles of meat, cheese, and lettuce inside some rolled flat dough, as well as roasted goat cheese and garlic spread on thin spicy crackers.
The group begins to eat (which will take an hour), while they continue their conversation......
Mirica tasted several different dishes but with the look of someone who does not care what she eats. The straightforward dragon fight turned into a puzzle they had to solve - and fast! - and that occupied all her thoughts. "The back-entrance seemed to be off limits. Who knows, those demons could be stuck there after an attempt to cast a spell. And that blade barrier... No, not the way. The front gate - wherever it is - at least should not be trapped but has it's own problems... I wonder if there is something the dragon cherish so much it would dare to leave the lair at once. A call from her master? Aldlas is dead and we do not know who was the one above him." Mirica was just thinking out loud while absentmindedly making sort of a map of the area out of sandwiches and green leafs of all kind (she did not eat that stuff anyway). "I doubt there is a way to frightened the dragon out of her lair... Providing we can get there unnoticed." She was so deep into thinking that even begun to chew on some lattice, but the taste returned her into reality and she threw away disgusting remains of the greenery. "I truly do not see any other way but to walk there and knock at the door. If Chen introduces himself as "the one who killed your son" - she might be compelled to get out for a lively conversation."
((Fi'Finella not FinFIn... lol. And it is Mirica's spell for the feast.))
(edit edit edit). That's what I said!
Toc eats a seasoned potato fingerling and responds to Mirica, "If there is a 'front door', we're not aware of it, and as far as we could tell, neither did Ezhia. The only other entrance is that spot in the ruins with a fountain and tiled floor with the scene of a ship. But....from what Fianna told us FinFin saw....it's some sort of magical teleportation location, and without the information on how it works, it won't be much use to us."
"You mean she leaves and enters her lair only through the teleportation circle? Because otherwise... The direction of the passage plus the size of the dragon and its treasure hoards... A square mile is not such a big area to search." She sighed and took another innocent leaf to twiddle. "Backdoor it is, I guess. Twisted Mythal can be manipulated too, as our now dead friend proved."
Despite having a mouth stuffed full of food, Chen interjects: Why rure her ou' anyway? She'rr jus' fry array. Be'er to faysh her in her rair un'erground, righ'?

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
“Til she started losing,” Fi’Finella finished sourly, still invisibly perched upon Fianna’s shoulder.
Fianna frowned but considered a moment. “T’is true enough. Though I do have a spell...”
“Dragons be strong!” Came the sour voice again.
“But if it caught we’d have it for a minute...” Fianna countered.
“If your pea brain could hold the concentration,” the familiar retorted.
“Hey!” Fianna objected. “True, but still! Rude!”
The familiar merely snickered...
“I wouldn’t start with it, would wait til it was wounded or fleeing... but yeah. If I saved those shots I could maybe have three chances. Even with, it’s strength may be too much for the spell. But if it worked it may be best if I find cover and hide so as to not have my concentration snapped...”
“But yeah, out of lair better. Dragon could glee from lair almost as easily as from out of it. Plus I’ve read stories that great beasts have extra powers in their lairs...”
Fi’Finella snorted. “You’ve read? I’ve never seen you read! If you can read why didn’t you become a real wizard?”
“Enough out of you!” Fianna shouted, turning to stare at her own shoulder, apparently. “Shut your trap or I swear by stars and stones you’ll never speak again!”
There was silence for a moment. Then two. Then three... Once Fianna relaxed and went back to snacking on the feast anyone listening closely could hear the slightly hushed voice say “That’s what you always say... but you always end up needing me again...”
Fianna sighed loudly.
Later the warlock did chime in again though. “I would vote we find the painting and try to figure out it’s secret to teleporting us in. If we must go into the lair I’d prefer at least not risking awakening the demons too... But we’re there no matter the decision.”
