"I'm going to take a lost look at the map before we set out. As the Skant orb here said, the map may tell us how long the dragon takes to get from town to town. That will give us the best idea of which town to head for first." Chill said. He then scooted off to run to the map room and study the map further.
"Ms Harpell. Are you coming with us? It goes without saying that it will be dangerous. If you would like, I can ask Oli here to watch over you." Kazri introduces Oli to Vellynne.

If Rhogar could but swing it, the Dragonborn immediately tries to clap a hand on the Tabaxi's shoulder before he can reach the elevators and said, "As a halfling once told me 'Slow your roll, Tabaxi.'" Rhogar demanded. "While you were fussing with the door upstairs earlier, me and master Krom studied it well enough. And even marked in part its passage to some extent on our own map. So, it'll be a simple matter to finish it on the way up." He lets go on that note and gives a somewhat exasperated smile.
A smile that falters a touch at Kazri's suggestion, as well as spurs the dragonborn on in looking to the young Owlbear with some degree of incredulousness. But rather than countermand Kazri's suggestion, the dragonborn instead urges the group to walk and talk to the eleavators, so that they group may depart the keep sooner than later.

"Rhogar is right Chill, the map that we studied showed clearly the dragon's path within the Dales." says Krom as the Tabaxi starts to walk away. "Let's head to Caer-Dineval as rapidly as we can." The dwarf turns towards Vellynne. "We could use the help of your magic in our fight, but as Kazri just said, it will be extremely dangerous."
(OOC: Unless Chill is doubling down on the room, likely right for Caer-Dineval. And... up to everyone else, but if it's possible to go at a higher pace at the cost of some exhaustion or exhaustion chance each day, then Rhogar would definitely vote for it.)

You make your decision to leave immediately from the fortress. You inform Dreck of your intentions to leave. He then advises that he will escort you out of the fortress. You pass through a set of double doors and past the statue of the duergar god before climbing into the same elevator that you took down to the forge level.
As you pass down the hallway towards the entrance that you came into the fortress you meet up with Granddolfa. She lets you know that she has heard what has happened and how you have assisted her people in taking control of the fortress. You inform her of your intentions to leave immediately in order to take care of the dragon. She again assures you that her and her people have no intentions against Ten Towns or Icewind Dale.
Leaving the fortress you climb down the stairs and find that your dogs and sleds and axe beak are still where you left them. Vellynne accompanies you and climbs onto one of the sleds as you make your way back across the ice and snow towards Ten Town.
You push as fast as you can as you traverse the mountain pass and then back towards the north and Dougan’s Hole. You recognize that the quicker you can get to any of the trade routes the faster you will be able to travel. You push through the night but eventually the dogs must rest in order to continue you spend some time resting before continuing on. ( a short rest )
Soon, early on the second day of travel, as you have moved faster than you did on your way south towards Sunblight you cross the Redwaters and approach Dougan's Hole.
You find that the dragon has destroyed every structure in town, including the docks. There are a few victims in the streets but no one is left there to greet you.
You continue on, worried about what you will find in Good Mead. Again the dragon has destroyed every structure in town except the Mead Hall. The town is otherwise empty and no one, living or dead is found. You hope that Sky led the people to safety in the woods but you do not have time to check.
Again you push on. You come to the crossroads where the Eastway runs east to Easthaven and west to Bryn Shander. Caer Dineval is to the north.
Time for another short rest or the dogs will fail and you will be walking.
You stand at the crossroads of the Eastway. You are tired and travel worn but you feel the danger of the dragon.
From what you understood on the map the dragon would have reached Easthaven for sure. How long would that city be able to make a stand against the dragon? Do you continue north hoping to get ahead of the dragon if it lingers in Easthaven? It was a large city, it would take time to attack. If you head east to Easthaven you may already find the city is destroyed and the dragon gone. Or perhaps in the act of destroying the town.
What will you find in Caer-Dineval if you press north? It is more likely than Easthaven that the town stands or is currently being attacked. But there is still the chance you are behind the dragon, though less of a chance than if you went to Easthaven
Or do you head west to Bryn Shander knowing that you will certainly be ahead of the dragon. But also know that it is the last town on the dragon’s path and the rest of the Ten Towns would have faced the same fate as Dougan’s Hole and Good Mead. You have seen what the dragon has done.

Sorry for the long post. If you wish to stop and do something further along the way let me know.
Please don't ask for math or exact times of travel. Just know that from your understanding of the map and the path of the dragon it would all depend on how long Easthaven could stand against the dragon or it would take the dragon to destroy the town. It is the 3rd largest town with over 700 souls.

It would've been one thing if the mounts desperately needed the rest at the time. But as things stood, Rhogar closed his eyes and spared but a moment to apologize to the spirits of Dougan Holes that may yet linger, before the party ultimately pressed on ahead down the road. And while thankful later on in seeing no fallen in Good Mead, such warmth only assuaged his feelings for only so long prior to the inevitably reminder of the time yet still ticking down on them.
And so they pressed onward...
For the duration of the trip as well, Rhogar is sure to leave Gorrah in her pocket dimension to rest for the duration of the trip. Yet he found himself grumbling as the temptation to summon her gnaws at him when they needed to pause at the crossroad. ".... We press on still for Caer-Dineval."He asserts. "We must. Any suvivors of Easthaven are bound for there anyways. So if nothing else, those that make it there might be able to tell us more about the dragon. It's attack patterns. It's... it's.... We keep going for the Caer."Rhogar states, doubling down on his assertions, and urging his Axe Back onward in that direction as if further encourage the others to follow.
OOC Of note: -Following the 1st short rest, converting both 3rd level spell slots into Sorcery points, then converting those points to into 2nd level spells. End results is no sorcery point remaining, and two new 2nd level spell slots. Krom gives one last look at the Duergar fortress as the group starts their forced march "I hope that Granddolfa and her duergar will keep their side of the bargain. Chill look worried at the sight of the destruction of Dougan's Hole. His anxiety mounted as they got closer to Good Mead and his heart feel when he saw its destruction.
Deep concern for Sky and her family filled him and he wanted to know they were OK but he also knew they didn't have the time search the woods for them.
As they took their break at the crossroads he wondered which would be the best way. He fell into agreement with Rhogar. Onward to Caer Dinival. That was the best choice. To much was at stake and when it they missed the dragon they would still have a good chance of getting ahead of the dragon.

You had travelled though the night with little rest and pushed yourselves and the dogs to their limit. Kazri, with her natural ability to resist is still strong. Rhogar called upon the favor of the gods and Brother Vixix answered, strengthening him.
The ride was hard on Chill and Krom who both found themselves exhausted from the trek to save Ten-Towns from the dragon. (Both received 2 levels of exhaustion)
But the gamble paid off and then came to Caer-Dineval to find it still standing and the dragon had not yet arrived. 3 towns had been decimated by the dragon and Easthaven not one of the least that Dougan's Hole and Good Mead could have been accounted with. But 7 towns still stood and you had a chance to defeat the dragon and save most of the Ten-Towns.
As you approach the town from the south you are immediately confronted by the fortifications for which the town is famous: its clifftop fortress, known as the Caer, and the ruined watchtower at the mouth of the frozen harbor.
Soldiers can be seen at various points throughout the town as you approach. They watch the sky more than they watch the road.
As you get closer to town one of the guards near the road hails you.
"You would be the White Cloaks? We have heard stories of what you have done throughout Icewind Dale. One of yours may have come 2 days ago and warned of a dragon. Runners from Bryn Shander also came to warn of the same. Said the the White Cloaks warned of a coming dragon though we have seen none and some doubt the story. But we watch the skies, perhaps in vain. Only time will tell."
Rhogar shakes his head. "Unless Easthaven managed to defeat that... 'thing', I am afraid that your watch will not be so in vain as you and I both wish it to be. It has already seen to Dougans hole and Good Mead thus far. And while their defenses might pale in comparison to Easthaven, I fear the one responsible for the 'dragon's' creation was painfully thorough in making it as destructive if not more so than most true dragons." He warns with arms crossed, before then looking to the others and sighing. "Apologies... I mean not to fear monger. But we've... my companions and I could use some rest. Our beasts too. We would also seek to speak with the Speaker, if they have not left as well, so we know how best to join in the defense here."
