I'm writing the history, lore, religion, etc. for a campaign I'm writing. I have no problem coming up with completely new religions and political parties but when it comes to naming cities based on the races that live there, I'm stumped.
My world has 5 main factions and a few smaller ones. Humans/mixed, Elves, Tabaxi, Dwarves, and Orcs. Human and Tabaxi city names are easy enough, Dwarven and Elvish cities aren't horrible, but Orcs. Geez do I hate naming Orc things. And I have about 12 major towns/cities to name in the Orc region (the Orc nation is called Dushnikh Zur as a whole). Can anyone give me some ideas?? Feel free to throw me some city names for the other factions too if you want. I may even name the leaders of the cities after the people who come up with the names LOL.
Life is very busy unfortunately, gone from most Pbp's indefinitely. If you'd like to contact me, I am on Discord at GreatAxeblade#7595, always happy to chat :)
Orcs? I use a lot of hard consonants, like "g" and "z". Examples (feel free to use these): Arkivaz, Graznak, Grimzal, Naraktul. Elves? I use words with a lot of vowels, especially "a" and "e". Examples: Salae, Elandras, Selani Dwarves? Similar to orcs. but slightly softer, and fewer "k" and "z". Examples: Granthor, Ramnad, Harthfist

I second this. use fantasy name generators, which has a section on a few different types of towns.
I third it. Fantasy Name Generators is amazing. I use it a lot.

Am I the only one who finds FantasyNameGenerators obnoxiously bad at times? It's an honest question, I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, but I've seen a ton of over-the-top and silly fantasy names on there.
Yea, but you often get ten names. And a whole new set is just one click away. It might take four or five sets to find something that works, but it is quicker than me trying to come up with another Elven city name.

I've taken to pulling up a map of somewhere relatively far from me IRL, and then just zooming in on small towns and pick from there/ let my imagination go. There's some great ideas, and the players will never know that they're actually real town names

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?

I'm weird and made an entire con lang for elves in my homebrew world, so I use that for elvish names.

I like to use a real world place name as a base and change it to be better for a fantasy setting. Hope it helps!
I also recommend Donjon, which includes a fantasy name generator and many many other tools.
