I have been looking around for stuff n things about vecna and i stumbled upon the only true allie vecna had called "The Serpent" and i were wondering who this is, i have been looking around for any kind of info but really cant find anything
Mok'slyk is an old Flan name for an entity known as the Serpent, an entity of godlike power believed to be the personification of arcane magic
not much info is available - almost no other references except in this context.
the suggestion is that “the serpent” whispered dark knowledge of ancient magic in vecna’s ears teaching him great power .
Possibly a primordial god of magic -
In my opinion most of this info is dnd writers fudging some flavour text justification together without sourcing or fitting it in with existing canon ie “Ancienf brethren “ never mentioned elsewhere.
A dark power appearing as a magical serpent to teach and lead a young mage down a vengeful path to nihilistic destruction - seems rather like a minion:avatar form of Tharidun would have served.
I personally like the concept idea of “The Serpent” being Vecna from the future, influencing his younger self to ensure Vecna becomes who he’s meant to, a serpent eating its own tail like an oroborus

IIRC, there were in-universe rumors regarding "The Serpent" and Asmodeus.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
That was my immediate thought as Asmodeus is a huge serpent hiding in the lowest level of Baator.
