I assume a pony for the average folk, but what about for millitary or adventuring goals in mind? A griffon? Drakes or lesser dragons? War bears and boars? Would love to hear your comments on that
Mountain Goats of some kind, ponies, bears and boars are absolutely on the table. Maybe drakes depending on the flavor of your setting

Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
I loaned out my copy of the Complete Book of Dwarves, but in Dwarves Deep hippogriff cavalry is mentioned a few times; for both the Riftlake in Underchasm and in the entry for Eartheart.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
For my setting, mountain dwarves travelling on the surface are going to be riding dire bears. Underground, duergar may ride some form of lizards. I think anything other than just horses makes sense, depending on where they are, so Tolkien-esque big ol' goats is a good option. As long as the mount is as thicc as the dwarf, that's really what matters, yes? :V
While Mountain Goats and Lizards might be practical, everyone knows the real answer is Llamas! Just kidding, Dwarves are too heavy. Dwarves might use them as beasts of burden, however.
How about chariots pulled by some unusual beasts? Getting on and off the chariot would be a lot easier than mounting and dismounting for someone with dwarven stature. After all, Thor is said to have ridden in a chariot pulled by goats.

While I still cringe at the Hobbit movies, the dwarves riding huge mountain goats were pretty inspired, so I'd go with that.

I'd add giant lizards to the list.

IMC, hill dwarves tend to raise pigs and ride ponies or boars. Mountain dwarves tend to raise goats and ride ponies or rams.
Ah you beat me to it! Large mountain goats have to be the go to choice.
In my world, it's Mountain Goats for Mountain Dwarves, female steeders for Duergar, and oversized pigs/boars for Hill Dwarves.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
