First, I'd like to thank everyone who's helped D&D Beyond be such a helpful resource. I'm blind & appreciate that I can read the books, look up stats, etc, & manage my characters & encounters with only occasional help from my sighted husband. I've also appreciated y'all's dedication to help make D&D Beyond more accessible over time & to build accessibility into new apps, features, etc from the start, understanding that it's easier to create with accessibility in mind than to fix it afterward. That said, with the recent personnel changes, I hope y'all will continue to work with DotsRPG and to keep accessibility in the forefront.
BTW, your apps are mostly accessible, but I thought of y'all when I ran across the following tweet:
@matt_hackert: If you’re an iOS app developer, @NFB_voice & @Apple are presenting a seminar on 3/31 all about developing accessible mobile apps. #A11Y Register for free at https://acorta.me/2K1
I'll try to compile some suggestions as well (within the energy & cognitive limitations of my chronic illness, which is unrelated to my blindness), but perhaps this free seminar will cover them...?
Just FYI, I shared a few issues I've had with the player app (& my work-arounds & some potential solutions) in response to another player's post on the new article on the upcoming combined app.
I desperately hope that they drastically improve the accessibility of the player app. The reader app works wonderfully, and I have used it for the last few years to keep track of all my spells and equipment… But the player app has been absolutely abysmal using VoiceOver on the iPhone. They really need to take accessibility seriously for the visually impaired, because if they haven’t, this will exclude me from the entire game.
Aloha! ;)
What kinds of issues are you having? I'm using both apps on an iPhone X & have been able to access most of the player app features with VoiceOver. I did have an issue with the conditions button disappearing when I applied one (& was told there was an image, so assume no alt text), & the spells list is kind of long to have to scroll through (hopefully they'll add a filter by level like on the website), but I can keep track of spell slots, equip/unequip equipment, roll dice, etc. Another thing that would be nice is a way to quickly jump to actions, bonus actions, etc on the actions page, like a filter or implementing headers (which I could jump to via VoiceOver--I suppose implementing headers on the spells page would allow me to jump as well...). BTW, with a double-tap-&-hold (VO's version of the long-press gesture), I can change dice rolls from regular to with advantage or disadvantage...
Are you having other issues? Also, are you using an earlier iPhone? I've found that when we can give them specific examples, the DDB staff have been very responsive. (I'd meant to share the above issues in the feedback forums, but have been dealing with limited energy due to chronic illness, but your post prompted me to respond...). Please share how they or I can help make things more accessible.
Hope this helps! ;) --SFL
PS, I don't know if this was a VO or iOS issue (& haven't checked lately if it's still works this way), but I had an issue in which selecting the 1st character in the list didn't bring it up. Since I have more than 1, I just changed the sort order & was able to pull it up fine...

Even though we tried to do our best to figure out what we could do better, it is awesome and thank you for all your help!
Thanks. ;)
