My guess is because oftentimes, the player's background/pre-game history isn't privy to the other players or PC's until it comes out in-game. Anyone in the campaign can see the Features & Traits tab, but other players can't see the Description or Notes tabs. I think that's why all of the Background info goes there, so you can keep it private from other party members if your campaign is linked up here on D&D Beyond and the other players won't know your Background until you choose to reveal it to them, in-game or out..

Not a high priority, just a quick Q: why aren't Background Features listed under Features & Traits as a more direct reminder?
They are very similar to passive Race or Class Features...
All good if remains the same, but wouldn't hurt to consider a minor change.
