I am wanting to start a new game the place I play wants to expand to more nights so I am taking a slot. I have a story line in mind. In fact I have been buying the characters or towns people to play their role.
Anyway the story line I have in mind my DM says I cant do because it would be a home brew. He says that according to adventure league rules I cantsdo my own story line. It has to be one of the published one. Like the Yawnig Portal or do the starter kit story of the Dragins of Shipwreck Isle
But according to the DMG it seems from there like on page 4 Part 1 Master of the world it says I can. I am just trying to make sure my ducks are in a row so when i stand my ground not only to the store where I will run the game but to my current DM that is trying to help me get started I can say yes I am doijng my story line and this is where it says I can do it.
If the game place is advertising as Adventurer's League, then you need to stick to published stories or write your own following the proper guidelines- and then publishing them within 1 year. Adventurer's League rules supersede rules in the DMG. Another example of specific-beats-general.
Now, that doesn't mean you cannot change the flavor of a published adventure to more closely match what you have in mind. But the threats and rewards should be the same. I've strung several unrelated Adventurer's league titles together and added through-lines to tie the stories together more. I didn't have to change much at the beginning or end to make it seem cohesive.
I have decided to write this adventure down and publish per the rules. The think the concept I am attempting will be fun. I guess it comes down to the putting in the work and so I shall write the story down and publish it. Hopefully it will mean others like it as well.
