I have bought a lot of modules and run exclusively games as AL legal to further the community. With all the new books that have come out in the last few years I find the old rewards are a bit stale. I would REALLY like AL to allow DM's to give out a different magic item (of the same tier) as a substitute, ESPECIALLY if the reward is lower than the tier of the module (AE a rare given out as a reward for a tier 3 module, sorry another +2 wand of the war mage gets boring). I want to keep old players entertained and guessing as well as making new players curious beyond the basic DM for magic items. PS tell WoTC that it will help sales of all books!
Jasperrdm I appreciate the response BUT I am not talking about DM reward I am talking about the reward IN the module for the players. AL could really use this change to help us all out and sell more books too!

Several of the adventures in Keys from the Golden Vault allow the players to choose any uncommon or any rare or any very rare from a variety of sources. I believe that there are also a number of other adventures that give the players an option to choose something. So as usual with AL, rewards are more often the result of what the DM chooses to run and what is allowed by that module.
Personally, I don't think AL needs revision of older modules to change the rewards. There just aren't enough hours in the day for someone to go through revising them and changing them all to "any uncommon" etc takes away the flavor of the adventure and the fact that the magic item recovered is often in use by the main opponent in the module.
AL is managed by only indirectly by WoTC, so using the Discord server linked in the top thread is the best way to bring this up. There was one season (season 8) where you didn't get any magic items, just treasure points. And then you could buy off of the magic item tables based on how many points and which table. It was NOT well received by the community.
But you can flavor any magic items to make them more special. Maybe it isn't a wand of the war mage, but a gauntlet, or a pair of glasses, or a codpiece. Maybe it has a small secondary sensory effect, or a recorded voice. You can use the minor properties charts in the DMG. And ever since Tasha's Guide to everything came out, we have more freedom. Wand of Magic Missiles- no, Wand of Spectral Chicken Assault!
I've been DMing since season 5, so I have a ton of rewards. Since there is no limit to how many items a character can possess anymore, you could take one of your 20th level characters and turn them into a magic shop. Just pay the downtime and offer a trade.

I agree David42, it is nice to hear people give the war story of how they got their magic item from DdAL05-02 and compare to how my group did.
