I think this is not a good idea and will put a tax on the druid that other classes dont have to deal with. I know they are recooking druid but I hope they remove this .unless they scale wild shape to be strong enough not to need any features . but i dont like the overall idea cause it kills creative build ideas like astral monk bear or a barbearian, those are not even good mechanically, but some people have fun with them.
From what they have said about the play test results I am fairly sure the wildshape wil be toughened up. Actually I am quite happy for wild shape to be pretty flimsy for non moon druids, so only mood druids can effectivly use wild shape in combat but even the play test moon druid would not last long in combat but that will be redressed.
In 2014 5e a druid can wild be any of around 100 races and could wildshape into any of 100 or so beasts / elementals. With that many combos it is often unclear how things interact and they are trying to simplify things. Druids are the least played PHB class and I think that is because a lot of players are scared of the complexity, druid was one of the last classes I played for that reason.
By the way BarBearin is incredibly powerful at level 4 but is sub par before then and falls away quickly (even at level 5 because single class players get so much at level 5 and the Barbearian gets pretty much nothing).
ya its fine if they have other uses or utility for non moon druids .I just think options are always nice.
I also think if change the druid alot of people still won't play them. it really isn't too hard if you read how to play them and have a folder for your druid of at least 3 shapes.

It does look as if they will address the lack of versatility in the playtest, Jeremy Crawford speaks a lot about the futur edirect of the druid in the first 20 min or so of this video
The problem with Druid is not that it's too complex; it's that A) too many people don't have the PHB and therefore aren't even aware of the useful default beast options for Wildshape in the back of that book; B) Druid is not a pew! pew! blasty type of spellcaster and is therefore has no close video game corollary; and C) there are very few pop culture depictions of druids, unlike, for instance, rangers, paladins, and rogues.
