My players have found a magic jar (they haven't identified it as such yet). The jar itself is the transmuted body of an ancient green dragon, and her soul has been trapped inside.
For centuries her life force has been syphoned from the jar to sustain a floating city. They found the jar in the ruins of the city and have been walking around with it.
She hasn't attempted to possess anyone, since they have been too far from an ancient structure that can free her, and thus hasn't revealed herself to be the soul in the stone, and the stone itself.
Now, as for possession, the spell dictates that the spirit within the jar can project its consciousness up to 100 feet away from the jar in order to attempt to possess a body.
My question is this, is it reasonable to rule that she can project herself, as if she were a scrying eye, and then select a target? Or should she instead have line of sight from the stone itself?

Magic Jar only permits targeting creatures 'you can see', and 'project' means 'possess'. However, this is a plot device, so you can easily decide it has nonstandard effects.
Here's an interesting thing about Magic Jar... it states that the caster can see as though they themselves occupied the space of the jar. It doesn't overtly state that special senses remain, but I think it's fair to assume so. An Ancient Green Dragon has Blindsight out to 60 feet, so theoretically, at least within that aura, they can target things that would not be visible to the party. So, if, say... the Ancient Dragon just hangs out in the jar and waits until the party takes it to an inn, it could conceivably use its blindsight to target the Dwarf sleeping in the next room over and possess it, with the PCs none the wiser.
It's totally unclear how blindsight interacts with cover. I generally have it be blocked, but RAW is silent on the issue.
I have it work kind of like fireball's AoE. It can't go through cover, but it can spread around corners.

I'd rule that a creature with blindsight can perceive through thin material... I'd probably just use the same rules as the Message Cantrip just to simplify things: " Magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood."
Thanks for your help everybody! I think the blindsense ruling is an interesting point, especially since the magic jar is the transmuted body of the dragon.

That would be my guess too.
