My players might decide to take a ship rather than going overland, and I'll need a game to do for them, idealy a one shot and comic/silly in nature. I've brainstormed some ideas but none see to quite work so any inspiration or links please.
Well, if you want to go underseayou could have them meet a magical undersea very positive and happy fungi, who looks a lot like a sponge and a Chuul who runs an undersea restaurant, I imagine others could fill in the other creatures :).
Or you could just flood the characters with cursed magic items and curses. Or just give a 1st level character a ring of three wishes and see what happens. If you want comedy, you could have the players just make it themselves.

Some mix of the Beetles' "Yellow Submarine" movie and "Octopus's Garden" would be quite a diversion. If you have a player who insists on gravity, you can put in the albatross from Rime of the Ancient Mariner (sea what I did there?).

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
Engineer the situation such that the players end up on a slightly shady ship with a slightly sleazy captain, and it turns out he is smuggling.
Then, engineer an event wherein one of the barrels in the hold catches fire, or starts smoldering. Smoke starts to rise up from below-decks, and the players have to try and get down there and put it out. But there's a problem; the crew below decks are acting incredibly strangely - roll on a table to see if they are excessively; aggressive, afraid, seductive, happy, cuddly, rude, angry, glazed-over staring at their own hands, etc. They all have a glazed look in their eyes, like they're hardly seeing you.
The smoke is a hallucinogen, and it will affect the players as well as the crew. Have them make constitution saves each turn they are below decks and note how many they fail - this will affect how badly the smoke affects them.
Shortly thereafter, the ship is attacked by Imps or stirges, or some other tiny creatures. Any magic they do is purely illusion, and they seem to die really easily.
Then a giant shark will attack the boat, and need to be fought off. It never manages to land a decent bite.
After these encounters, the wind will pick up and blow some fresh air into the players. They will get the mother of all headaches, and will start to notice some things;
Where the deck was littered with the corpses of imps, it is now littered with the corpses of seagulls.
Where there was a giant shark dead in the water, there is now a whale, which was clearly very dead before they started - anyone who touched it stinks of rotten whale meat.
The hallucinatory smoke made them see foes where there was basically nothing. They fought off the seagulls which were picking at the whale carcass, and then fought off the whale carcass.
For extra giggles, you could then have a giant shark arrive to eat the whale carcass, giving them an actual fight - but they might have blown some spell slots "killing" the dead whale!
I think that there's an interesting idea in Rime of the Frostmaiden about animals that can be given the ability to speak and much more intelligence with the awaken spell. It would be a fun idea to have the PCs be surprised by a whale or similar creature pulling up beside their ship and saying hello. You can also have them go by a reef or something with tons of sea caves with interesting creatures inside, as something to just pass by or interact with. You could also give the captain of the ship they decided to travel on a ridiculous personality (maybe a grumpy old guy who always complains about how the world was so much better "back in my day") to get a laugh out of them.

And again I am finding myself pulled back to spongebob squarepants. I am finding a way to take my players under the sea at some point :) awaken spell plus a load of different sea creatures should make for a very silly session lol.

Spongebob is one thing, true, but perhaps go for a different, more obscure tack and see if perhaps just one of the players "gets" it.
I don't know whether you're familiar with the movie Bedknobs & Broomsticks, but it features the Isle of Naboombu, where the animals wear clothes & can talk, and the king is obsessed with playing (ugh, this word) "Soccer" (the whole film is set in England, it's bloody football!).
If you're interested in watching it (it's truly a brilliant film, and the ending is phenomenal) then do so; if not, a brief summary is in the spoiler:
The main characters arrive at the bottom of the Naboombu Lagoon, and meet several friendly fish characters. They do some very singing & dancing (as is necessary in a Disney movie) and then they are pulled out of the lagoon by a bear who's fishing. The bear tells them there's "no peoplin' allowed" and insists he has to throw them back in, but they insist on seeing the king and he shows them to him.
The king is a very grumpy lion, who is obsessed with football (sorry-not-sorry, I'm calling it football. I'm referring to the game where you kick a ball with your foot. For the American version, see: Hand-Egg) but he cannot get a referee. One of the characters agrees to be a referee and is subsequently repeatedly trampled in a game of football which is akin to a bar brawl.
As such, an idea for their encounter could be to find an island of awakened animals, where there are no people, and simply have some interactions with them - perhaps throw in a quest for them to do for them, such as finding something that the king lost whilst swimming in the lagoon - queue an adventure under the sea to find their doodad.

I love bed knobs and broomsticks, grew up watching that at my grandparents, am now also thinking back to the water babies as well :).

I've never seen either I'm afraid...
Animation from the Beetles properties are easily found in YouTube searches, as are the songs themselves.

So do I XD
I feel like both spongebob and bed knobs & broomsticks would work in well with my original idea for hallucinatory drug smuggling XD
