Assuming the character has information available, i.e. we're past needing any Perception checks or the like and they've witnessed phenomena like the mists, a Nature check should readily tell you you're not on the Prime Material, and Arcana should be able to tell you you're in the Shadowfell with a greater DC on determining Ravenloft in specific.
Charisma (Investigate) can be used to just ask around town about where the character is.
I think most people could tell if your in the shadow fell. However an arcana or history check may be needed to detect if one is ravenloft.Unless something that clearly marks the area as domain of dread happens.
History would potentially tell you more about Ravenloft and the Shadowfell once you'd worked out where you were. It's not going to help you work where you are initially, though, unless you're using History as a placeholder for every other lore skill at once.

What skill checks would a character use to identify whether they were in Shadowfell or specifically Ravenloft?
