I am working on my campaign and I definitely want to add some music puzzles. Below is what I have as an idea but I'm not sure how it will work in-game:
"You enter a room with small pads on the floor of each corner and one on each side of the door in front of you. There is also a big pad in the middle of the room. Pressing the middle pad plays a tune. Each pad plays one note, must play the notes in the correct order to move on.
Corner 1 floor pad is the low Octave D noteCorner 2 floor pad is an A noteCorner 3 floor pad is the F noteCorner 4 floor pad is the G note"left" Door pad is the high octave D"right" Door pad plays the g sharp.
The correct order is:D C1D. C1+D LDA. C2G#. LRG. C4F. C3D. C1F. C3G. C4(yes its megolovania)
If played correctly the door will open, but here comes the problem, I can't play the tune for them because of the way it's designed I want them to have the "oh crap its megolovania prepare for a boss fight" (even though there will be nothing hehe) so the only way around this would be them just rolling performance until they succeed.
The other solution would be to scrap the megolovania bit and just make an uninteresting but still easy-to-follow tune so I can actually play it irl every time someone decides to replay the tune. Thus getting rid of the performance until success check.
I know this was a long one but please any suggestions would be wonderful!

🎶Oops, I did it again! I played with your heart, got lost in the game! Oh baby, baby! Oops, you think I'm in love, That I'm sent from above, I'm not that innocent!
Another solution would be to lay the pads out to more resemble an instrument, that way a character (especially a bard if there is one) could make a check or something to recognize the instrument that is resembled and figure out that it is music. After that, do whatever to make them play the funny

Record it, copy and press play.
Even record 3 copies of it, 2 badly played, 1 really good.
