i just gathered few fellows and started a campaign, i'm first time DM (played a couple of oneshots as a player, dont have much exp) and all the others first time players. Players are level 4.
The campaign is settled in LOL universe and we started with the Herald of the harrowing adventure, they killed Commander Ledros and i let them take his sword since it had to be a oneshot.
We all enjoyed the evening and decided to go on and make it a campaign.
So, as in the title, i would like some info on how the blade of ledros' curse works
Does removing the curse from the sword take out the bonus dmg and make it a normal longsword? or does it become op with no downsides beside the attunement?
In that case i was thinking about nerfing the sword and making it a little bit less powerful after removing the curse like some part of magic went away with it (making it +1d6 or something like that).
Or maybe give me some ideas on how to balance the game and dont let the sword break it.
I was thinking about the boyz discovering the curse -> trying to find someone to break / lift it -> realizing he still has Max hp reduced -> finding someone else to get the hp back
When casting Remove Curse on the Blade of Ledros, its curse remains, but the spell breaks its owner's Attunement to it so it can be discarded. Not being attuned means you loose the bonus to attack and damage though and a Wish spell is required to restore hit point lost.
Remove Curse: At your touch, all Curses affecting one creature or object end. If the object is a Cursed magic item, its curse remains, but the spell breaks its owner's Attunement to the object so it can be removed or discarded.
Attunement: Without becoming attuned to an item that requires attunement, a creature gains only its non magical benefits, unless its description states otherwise.

A way to balance it so its less game breaking could be to have attunement maintained so the bonus to attack and damage can be retained, reduce the hit point loss, extra damage, and DC and only require Remove Curse get rid of the side effect and restore hit point lost.
Blade of Lendros
Weapon (longsword), rare (require attunement)
The jagged shards of this blade are bound together by sickly green energy. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
When you hit a humanoid with this weapon, the humanoid takes an extra 1d6 damage.
Curse.
This weapon is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Until the curse is broken with Removed Curse or similar magic, you are unwilling to part with the weapon, keeping it within reach at all times and you have disadvantage on attack rolls made with weapons other than this one. In addition, once a day at midnight, you must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw unless you are undead. On a failed save, your maximum hit points are reduced by 5. Hit points lost in this way can only be restored by a Removed Curse spell. If your maximum hit points are reduced to 0 in this way, you die and immediately rise as a wraith.
thank you sir, i will definitely follow your advice and see what happens
i also saw the tattoo that lets you use a spell one time and then disappears, i might give the player this tattoo instead of a scroll (looks cooler imo) and let the guy decide when to lift the curse
