I'm pretty new to DMing 5e. I'm starting a group through Icespire Peak next week and I honestly can't determine.. when the quest says you will get 50gp upon completion.. is that per character or for the whole group? The latter seems very low to me, but I really don't know the intent. A lot of the scenarios scale with the number of players, so it isn't as if I'm sending four people to do a two person job and the tiny reward relects that. This isn't AL or anything like that; just a few friends.
Thoughts? Opinions? Has this been clarified elsewhere? Thanks in advance for your answers.
Thanks for the reply. I do understand that is a huge sum for a commoner, but when you consider that a single basic healing potion is 50 gp it doesn't seem like a great risk vs. reward sum, particularlyfor a party of four. I know it adds up but at that rate (I know others pay a little more) that's four adventures to buy a potion.
As an aside, in my experience, many published adventures are extremely rough for starting parties. It's very difficult at that level to balance encounters without making it boring. When a single sword slash could potentially kill almost anyone in the group, it's tricky. I recall some ridiculously difficult parts in what was supposed to be level 3 area of Descent into Avernus. There's a cultist with Fireball. There's some mold that could have TPKed us. Some things just come across as excessive. I guess find that balance is one of the biggesr challenges for the DM imo.
Thanks again for your reply!

It normally is for the group and 50 gold is an ok reward at level 1. Just imagine how much money that is for a normal commonor inth eworld.
The quest also are very simple if quite dangerous (Manticore - anybody?potential TPK if the playersa fight it).
Also the quest to the Dwarven Excavation has a nasty surprise with no reward for it which can also insta kill a level 1 player, so be careful there.
