I am writing a campaign and I want to have a dungeon to start the campaign out and being the players into the world. Does anyone know of a shortish dungeon (maybe one or two sessions in length) that is fun? I’m hoping to include some traps and puzzles.
I just ran The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces and it was a lot of fun and easy to run in 1 session. If your players are good you can always add an extra combat or 2. There are a couple of puzzles, I modified one, but no traps. You'd have to add that.
For the puzzle, I removed the attic which is a shortcut around the puzzle. I changed the three paintings in the study to having star shaped frames, then I placed 5 constellations in the upstairs room, only one of those 5 constelations was the same as something painted. I used the Pegasus. Each constellation only has 5 stars, so you can still "brute force" the lock or you can have then roll INT, and the highest roller "remembers" theyve seen stars on the bottom floor. They find the paintings in the star shaped frames and realize the dragon and unicorn dont have constelations so it must be the pegasus.
I also took out the slaad tadpole encounter and had them fight 4 zombies. I also gave the broom more HP and had it break into more brooms (like Fantasia) every time they damaged it. Those things get 2 attacks so be careful, I almost killed one of them.
You could add a constricting carpet to the bedroom if you want to make it harder on them.
Edit: almost forgot to say, and if I did forget this a TPK was almost certain. After meeting the Homonculi I had told the party "y'all return in about 15 or 20 and we'll have something cooked up for you" Taking a meal gives them 1 spell slot and the equivalent of a short rest.
