Hey, so me ans my friends are kind of a newbies to DnD in general(i forsay only played like 5-6 times and have no friens that can DM since the last one started to study).
In order for us to play i took the role of DM and i think i invested a fairly amount of the time i have(with job and life and everything) to get better in this hard role.
My question is if there is any suggestions you can give me in order to create theme a better and more memorable sessions. I have my own story to tell and i think my plot and sessions are good, but i have no way to get feedback on the matter. Is there any forum or site maybe where i can have legit feedback on session ideas(and not just roasts for being bad)?
The best feedback you’ll get is from your players. Check in with them about what they are enjoying and what that aren’t. The internet might say it likes something or not, but none of us matter when it comes to your game.
Beyond that, this is as good a place as any to find people who will give you opinions about your your ideas and plans. But in general, the more specific your question, the better, more relevant answers you’ll get.
One thing that’s helped me has been listening to actual play shows. There are some good ones, NaddPod, Critical Role, Three Black Halflings, (and so many others). Even if you don’t get anything else out of the shows, I find it really useful to pay attention to how DMs you like run sessions, maybe pick up some strategies and try to practice those skills in-game. You don’t need to try and BECOME those DMs, but pull things you like and adopt them into your own style. It’s also a good way to learn some of the more difficult and niche mechanics a bit more passively.
(When I first started out, I straight up ripped the entire structural bones of a session from a podcast I liked and used it to build my next session, ended up being a great learning experience and now I kinda just have a feeling for what my players want/expect next without much thinking. You’ll pick up on it quick)
