I am working on a Homebrew campaign and I have a plot line were a sacred grove has lost its Golden oak. A magic tree that kept a demon portal from opening but without the tree the veil is tearing and demonic influences are getting through, turning normal animals and plants into malformed monsters l, and it's slowly becoming strong enough to turn humanoids into demonic creatures(think T virus from resident evil).
Just curious is there some in game lore for something like this and would the monsters infected become monstrosities, abberations or can I go full fiend?
I know it's homebrew so I can go my way but I want it to feel narratively right so knowing some stuff would help for me to learn from
There is actually directly in-game lore for this! When there are enough demons in a place, they will cause a demonic incursion. You can find lore for them in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes.

Would the mutated beasts be monstrosities or fiends? I'm leaning more fiend because well it's a demonic influence.
There’s no direct lore for this as far as I know, but I know that gnolls have been listed as fiends in the past, and they’re essentially just mutated animals. So, fiend would work best.
