A player meets a tortle NPC. The tortle asks the player's help in guarding the eggs in the tortle village. Whenever the eggs hatch. aarakrokra show up and dive bomb the baby tortles for food on their way to the ocean. The player needs to distract or kill the aarakrokra while the baby tortles make a break for the ocean.
I imagine most attacks against the aarakrokra will be ranged, since they are a flying creature. The way I see it, the only way to land a melee attack is to hold initiative until someone is attacked via dive bomb attack.
Another feature I saw is that aarakrokra have the ability to summon an air elemental. In looking at air elementals the challenge rating is way too high for two 5th level characters. I may create a lesser elemental stat block to have in reserve.
Maybe instead of food, they are the enemies of the tortle clan. They are coming to kill the tortle hatchlings, and maybe the king of the tortles son is among them. Then they kidnap the son and hold him for ransom. Next adventure has them infiltrating the aarokocra cliff fortress to rescue the baby tortle.
Maybe this is done at night, and the tortles normally would have gone towards the moon shining over the water but a new lighthouse has been built and they aren’t going to the water. Now the players have to protect the tortle children, fight aarakocra, and extinguish the light.
Using an air elemental would be a good way to spice up the combat. Just lower the damage and hp to the appropriate level.
I like this encounter idea and might use this myself.
I like the idea of the leader's sone being part of the fray. Hard to determine which one is his in a flood of baby turtles. Or, maybe not. And the Aarakrokra being enemies of tortles makes sense in my campaign.
This encounter will likely be very difficult for 2 PCs if they are not built for ranged combat. If that is the case, you might want to plan an avenue for them to resolve this conflict between the Tortle and the Aarokocra in a non-violent fashion.

Thank you
His son might have hatched from a certain, special nest. They aarokocra saw when the nest was dug, so they knew which one would be the prince.
