I'm setting up a campaign where my PCs are accidentally ("accidentally") sent waaaaaaay far back into time, effectively copying over the Days of Thunder setting. Lore-wise they're not in Forgotten Realms but for all intents and purposes I'm just using that world as a basis. In any event, the thinking is it's going to be more of a survival-esque RPG with elements of Quiet Year and Knives in the Dark for how we play. Experimental, should be fun! In this game, there won't be any real civilizations as they're sent to a time when the first inklings of those are just starting. I've settled on early Feywild explorers in the form of Wild Elves, and the first organized settlements for Sarrukhs, and the end-boss' slave-soldier army of Gith/escapee enclave of Gith. Even then, the PCs will be mostly be on their own in a large, wild world.
To my question though. For gods and such, I'm setting it up that any god they'd encounter is in their most basic avatar form - really just super-powerful mortals/demigod who over eons are later mythologized into gods and/or ascend to greater godhood through increased power and worship, borrowing a bit from the Sandman and American Gods series. This'll mean any PC that starts as, say, a cleric or paladin, will need to find alternative fonts of power to draw on since in all likelihood their "god" isn't there yet (or isn't sufficiently god-like, but in any event wouldn't know the PC).
I'm having a bit of a harder time finding many known god/demigod operators during the Days of Thunder period, though. Not sure if there's a list somewhere I'm missing? I've got the World Serpent's avatar, and probably an early version of the Earthmother or Silvanus. If I include any primordials/elementals-genasi I might just bullshit up some powerful fire lord/water lord etc. But if anyone can think of a source or a list of demigods to draw upon that'd be helpful. Otherwise, if I include any other gods from the known/missing pantheon, I'll probably just homebrew them into a demigod form.
This isn’t at all what you asked, so sorry about this. But what going to happen with things people buy when there’s no civilization? The first thing I though of is plate mail, followed closely by arrows/bolts, then spell components like diamonds, I’m sure there’s other things.
But to answer the gods question, the 1e deities and demigods book was incredible with a variety of gods and pantheons. There weren’t FR gods in there, but there were dozens of earth pantheons. There’s also a 3e version.
That's the challenge the Players will need to face. Crafting mechanics will play a bigger role in this game than in one where you can find or buy a +X item. Components to making magical and wondrous items won't be per se difficult for them to find, and the collaborative world-building will help the PCs and me devise what they can make, with what parts, and where they might try to find them. Spell components will follow a similar suit, with some being much more common than others.
The premise of that being: in Forgotten Realms lore as I understand it, magical items are often difficult to make or relics from the past. Well, these guys are in the past - so they'll be making the items that might become the things of legend and lore into the future.

Not so serious response but I could not resist it based on the "Days of Thunder" in the title....
God Name: Coletrickle.
Portfolio/Influence: Horses, Physical power and, evetually, Chariots and Competition.
Appearance: The avatar is rather small for a Godlike Being and looks like Tom Cruise from 1990.
