Hello my fellow masters of the dungeons đź‘‹. My players are currently playing through the final dungeon (a cave) on there way to find "The Forge of Spells" (it's a heavily changed lost mine of phandelver). This is thought to be a craft of magic items lost to time but they way I have it is that it, while still having some magic item usefulness, it is a portal to the plane of the god that the PCs cult enemies worship ( the god of pain).
My plan was for the noble houses who owned the forge to have lied about its true form. I was trying to think of a good way to forshadow this. Maybe a letter? I'm not sure.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for you who respond. Its a big help.
I was an Icespire Peak player, but from what I understand of LMoP, the PCs have plenty of time to work through the mines, so I would suggest having some minions discussing the place and characters with a high enough Passive Perception could overhear.
If the place has a location to another plane, then maybe use some monster native to that plane? Angels, demons etc to flavour the place and have the players wandering why they are encountering more of this specific type of monster.
maybe influence over generations has increased the number of assimar/tieflings in the area again hinting at something divine or hellish
if the place is lost to time then the locals may be descendants of the original worshippers, so there could be old tales warped by time with snippets of truth
if the forge made other magic items they may be able to find these and examinations suggest they were forged on another plane or using methods/materials not founD in their own plane. These artefacts could also include scripts and enchantments pertaining to having their powers derived from another plane?
Ik this might be a bit far fetched, but I’ve used this in one campaign. It also appears in ice spire.
somewhere the adventurers find stone that reveals future. They see glimpses of their fates so like a small vision. It could be vague and like 1-2 sentences or longer.
Keep in mind this doesn’t work for a lot of adventures but idk if this helps you

You can have lots of little things like
If the presence is as significant as a gods domain then you could have environmental effects.
