so i'm gonna be DM-ing for my friends soonish and one of them requested i add a spell miscast table cause it would fit with another rule i'll be using ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWfeEW6pFSU ) and i said sure. does anyone know of any good miscast tables, or should i just make one/find one i like online and use it?
tbh, i'm not entirely sure. i just asked my friend but i think what i'll do is have the spellcaster roll a die(d20, probably) when they cast a spell, if it's below a certain DC(i was thinking something like 8+spell lvl(and possibly -1 for every 10 levels in that spellcaster class)) they get a miscast side effect or something like that(cantrips excluded) and the effect is more drastic based on how much they failed the DC by. i definitely think the DC'll need more refining but as i'm writing it out, i'm liking the idea more and more.
This sounds an awfully lot like wild magic but for everyone…

No. see the UA question about wild magic and wild magic sorcerers.
It's kind of reviled because they're bad effects that have either ridiculous but long lasting effects or pointless effects that add humour but little else. Sometimes the longer lasting effects can be like the infamous turn a player into a potted plant... Well then now you have to reroll or you need to go off quest to spend gods know how many days curing THAT condition (or any other like it whenever it happens) until the DM pulls their hair out and says the effects listed only last a tiny while or bans said chart.
A sensible chart can be drafted up with 1-20 if you want to use a D20, or 1-100 if you want to do percentile, and then all you have to do is, with the player that wants it, draft up as many possible effects you can, both good and bad, but also net neutral (nothing happens outside f the spell being cast, or nothing meaningful to combat or impactful to future role play happens), Plug them in randomly to your table, and there you go.

What's the context of this? When would a "miscast" happen?
I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?

yeah, but it was requested
In that case, why not use the wild magic table?
