I'm looking to get a West Marches campaign going with a couple of my groups. Does anyone have any sites or tools that they've used to organize it? I'd like something that lets us update lore and information, but also lets us post quests and maybe even submit groups and stuff. Any ideas are welcome.
Two ways that I can suggest, both of which I have used, Im sure there are others but at least these suggests are based on my personal experience.
World Anvil - This one is really great for collaborative work, creating locations, people, quests etc.. tying them together, creating maps with locations with everything being linkable and allowing for different users with different access rights to do different things in the setup. Its a web based thing, so no server stuff to deal with, you just need an account.
VTT Foundry - While mainly designed for running online games, you can and I have done this, run a server that is always running that everyone has access to and you get all of the functionality of the tool in what amounts to an online setting. Really great in that you can also use all the created content in games you run online.
In either case however, creating and running a West Marches campaign is quite a bit of work, but its tons of fun and with a great group of players it can actually exceed expectations of a typical adventure campaign as lots of stuff happens between sessions which was actually one of my favorite parts of participating and running in such a campaign.
I'll second World Anvil, but depending how many users you got, you might be putting yourself into a pretty expensive tier to allow for a large number of collaborators. OneNote, Notion, and I think GoogleNotebooks if they're still supported will offer similar collaborative and organizational capacity, it just won't have the WorldAnvil "flare" as readily available. WorldAnvil if used to the max will give the sense that you're players are all contributing to some great volume of the campaign. The other options will seem like the virtual equivalent of the three ring binders we used to organize all our stuff in. All function well, but the premium priced one comes with a lot more bells and whistles (and I think sorta does a lot more leg work re: understanding stat blocks and the like than the less TTRPG catered products).
