Building a tomb for Neverwinter Nine homebrew session. Have some traps placed now looking to add monsters. Party members will be 10th lvl. What would my fellow DMs recommend putting in there.
It depends a little on the tomb. If it’s been completely sealed off from the outside world, things like undead and constructs make the most sense. If you use living creatures, there’s always going to be a player who asks, what were they eating and drinking the whole time?
If there’s some kind of secret entrance somewhere, the sky’s the limit.
I agree. You have to be very creative if the place has no access to the outside world. Golems, undead, living organisms that are suspended and only reanimate when a door is opened, that sort of thing.

I am a 40 something year old physician who DMs for a group of 40 something year old doctors. We play a hybrid game, mostly based on 2nd edition rules with some homebrew and 5E components.
I was thinking of ropers, piercers, and cloakers. Maybe air elemental locked in a large chest. Possibly a fire elemental that spawns from a brazer and a good old fashion gelatinous cube. This place has been sealed since mt. Hotenow devastated the area. There are two passages ( secret entrances) that are caved in but could be opened up with some work. And of course there are some undead and spiders. There are brazers and touches that do light once the main entrance is opened. Any of this I should leave out? Or something I should add? I do have a puzzle setup in the main the main chamber.
I like the eidolon and the sacred statue combo if you want to use that. I also personally don't like mixing elementals because their usually either an expression of nature or a platonic idea of a pure substance. I think when you mix them I think you give an impression of magical chaos that is a bit over done. I also like to match my undead to the location or monsters around. So for a volcano I would probably use burning ash zombies. maybe something like stone cursed with fire immunity and a fiery appearance.
Wights, Shadows, Vampires (trapped within ) an earthquake couls have opened a fissure underneath or opening it to the sky allowing other creatures to make their home there. There is really no limit to what could end up there
Aside from what you'd usually expect from a tomb (see Undead suggestions above), what comes my mind would be creatures capable of traveling through walls or that can literally flow through cracks. Think Xorn, Gabel-duhr, or a Dao in terms of Earth. Phase Spider or Gibbering Mouther are good examples of creatures not stopped by most walls.

friends, Romans, countrymen, consider. a mortal soul that got jumped by elemental earth like a dao, but something went wrong. now they're a earthen specter, able to move through earth like water, as hardy as stone itself, but with the revenge obsessed mind of a mortal controlling them
