I am currently building a new arcane tradition for the wizard class of d&d 5e. In this arcane tradition, you use the Spell Point variant rules, detailed in the DMG on pages 288-289, instead of having spell slots.
My question is, how do I determine the number of spell points, a PC using this arcane tradition I am building, would be recovered during a short rest when they use their arcane recovery feature? They do not give a solution in the DMG for this problem, and I want to have the PC who might use this arcane tradition a fair chance at being able to use all of their wizard features. Also, I just want to know how many spell points would be used with the wizards arcane recovery feature.

To make it easy I would use the points for a spell slot equal to half the players level. So at 2nd level, it's one 1st level slot, so 2 points. At 10th level it's one 5th level slot so 7 points.
I personally wouldn't worry to much about the arcane recovery rule that says none of the spell slots can be 6th level of higher. The idea of using the point system negates that rule in my opinion. At 11th level you have 73 points, you could burn those on casting eight 6th level spells compared to normal wizard spell slots where you would have one 6th level spell. I would just at 11th level give them the points for a 6th level slot 9.
Yes, as Veth13 suggests, just reverse engineer the recovery using the spell point table in the DMG. I'm using a simplified home-brew version of the point system variant (bastardized from 1e,) and have decided to ignore the arcane recovery--once the wizards use their points, they cannot recover them except by a long rest. That simplifies things and somewhat balances the advantages of the point system I'm using. (As written, I think the spell point variant in 5e is more complicated than it needs to be.) My home-brew could be a disaster, but we'll see how it goes.
