Has anyone ever noticed that the street view map for Trollskull Alley doubles the size of Trollskull Manor when you look at the floor plan? Both make sense when you look at them separately is the problem.
Keep in mind that since DnD requires a 5' bubble around everyone for combat, many map makers double the dimensions of every room/building to account for the number of miniatures/tokens/characters that need to exist (and fight) in that space.
One way to explain this to players is to say that while indoors you will be using 'grid squares' not actual feet/meters. Each square can then equal 2 1/2 ft instead of five, but all ranges, reach, areas of effect use grids not actual feet. A fireball is still 4 square radius (not 8).

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
