hey everyone, im putting together a final arena fight for my players
its a 4(players)v4(npcs) but theres a catch, 1 of each team will do a 1v1 in the middle while the other run around and do all sort of thing to buff/heal/debuff the enemy. Note: the 6 players who are not in the 1v1 are not allowed to interfere directly, they have to use special pillars, rune and to hype up the crowd to help their Champion. also befoe this final fight there were 6 other fights, with each one of them having a different gimick so its been a long hard road for them.
now, im saying all this because i want to give them a proper reward for this epic showdown(at least i hope it will be) they are all level 7 and will rise to 8 by the end of the fight. their class are ranger, wizard, barbarian and cleric if that helps.
i was going to give them a bundle with: 1. Cloak of Protection 2. Ring of Evasion 3. Amulet of Health 4. Bracers of Defense or alternatively: 1. Berserker axe 2. Staff of Fire 3. Bracers of Archery 4.Periapt of Wound Closure
i would welcome all critics and/or roasting and if anyone has any better ideas please let me know. thank you for your time :)
I have run an Arena Fight before in a One-Shot. It was a part of a Summer Solstice Festival.
I gave them a pile of stuff, not just one item each. Maybe think of, or roll on the Random Magic Items in the DMG for some good suggestions. In addition to some items I thought would be good for their characters (like you have picked out), I also included, Magic Scrolls, Potions, Bag of Tricks, Alchemy Jug, Pipe of Smoke Monsters, etc.
There are so many non-class specific magic items you can pick from.
Cheers!

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.

The first set seems better than the second for me. Instead of four items where it's telegraphed who is going to get which one, give them items that they can decide for themselves who gets what
For instance, you could give them a set of four magic rings: Protection, Free Action, a Ring of the Ram, and a Hart Sage's Signet. Describe them as being a matched set with all animal motifs -- maybe the setting on the Ring of Protection looks like a tortoise, while the Ring of Free Action has an eagle design. The barb won't be able to take the signet, since it requires attunement by a spellcaster, but otherwise any of them might make sense for any party member
Alternately, you can ask them what they want as a reward, in general terms. If the ranger says they want to boost their AC, you can give them the Cloak of Protection, or magic armor of the type they're already wearing. If the wizard says they want extra spells, give them a clutch of spell scrolls of various levels, or a Ring of Spell Storing. That sort of thing.

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
This kind of thing seems ripe for a non-item reward. The groups gets a title as the winners of the arena. The city likes the idea of those kinds of people being invested in the town, so the mayor gives the party a house or villa or small compound. (Using bastion rules, or ignore that and just give them a nice safe house the characters can fix up how they like.) And now, as the champions of the town, there’s lots of potential plot hooks as they try to protect their new home.
They’re also locally famous now. They don’t have to buy drinks at the inn, and shopkeepers give them better prices on mundane goods, that kind of thing. (Probably they have enough money that this doesn’t matter in a practical sense, but it just feels cool.)
