starting a new game soon with a fresh group, running phandelver as a way to just set the tone of what to expect, but I’m already planning ahead. After phandelver you should be level 5, what’s a good official module to start after?
You can go from Phandelver to pretty much any of the other modules. It DOES help in knowing a bit beforehand as you can setup plots/clues for your group to make a nice transition.
Personally, I lake taking bits and pieces from modules and molding them in to things my players are interested in.
For a better answer here are some quick thoughts:
Curse of Strahd -- Gothic horror/undead setting - a lot of folks know this content in different forms already. You could have the mists of raventloft engulf the party from a house at the end of town (or the manor)
Storm King's Thunder -- Sprawling sword coast setting with giants -- You can move pretty easily from Phandelver to Triboar and start at level 5 or so, moving right into a giant attack.
Out of the Abyss -- Underdark! -- this is a a really easy setup with Black Spider
Against the dragons (horde of dragon queen/rise of tiamat) -- you can use the cultists in Thundertree to lead you along.
Hope the above helped some without spoilers. I'm at about the same point and am using elements from SKT (Storm King's Thunder) as well as some Lords Alliance stuff potentially from Tiamat as I want to bring in some Sword Coast politics.

I recommend going into out of the abyss. It is a really fun module that says it starts at 1st level, however the players start out without any gear fighting drow elite warriors (CR 5).
Im planning on doing storm kings thunder after LMoP. As a twist I stated the characters from Triboar instead of Neverwinter for LMoP. I homebrewed a session 0 to bring them from lvl 1-2 and now they are off to Phandalin. It will be a perfect fit for Storm King's Thunder as they have already met a lot of the NPCs in Triboar.

Well, if the party can survive LMoP, they should be able to survive Storm King's Thunder.

Man, thanks for the quick feedback!
I was thinking of leading into Tyranny of Dragons and you just gave me a great hook. Although the underdark does sound fun.
I'm considering moving my group into Dungeon of The Mad Mage once they finish LMOP in a few sessions. Should be out by then.
I considered this as well! Seeing as how LMOP ends with the characters being level 5 and that’s what DoTMM recomends
