My players have been given a plot where the rogue has been given a vision of a path to a location. They are to find a small wooden box, about 45-50 cm long, and about 10 cm high. What could this box contain? (While I'm not happy about it, it was Vecna who gave him the vision. In this world, necromancy is banned and shunned so he is pretty weak. Still, a powerful dude but, very much on his lasts few legs.) Thanks in advance!
It's a box of holding. So now they have to find out what's in it before they can pull it out. And there is some sort of mark on it to indicate who it belongs to.

Hmmm! I like that idea! I could throw in a bunch of weird stuff... ^^ Thanks! ^^
That's a good option. I am doing something similar with a vault in another dimension, but inside is the god of the Apocalypse who was sealed away in a war between the gods. You are probably not looking for something that game changing, but maybe a npc is sealed in there that you can bring in later.

Well you're the second who has commented on this so I'll take almost anything at this point! xD But I was thinking of having a medallion that could summon an NPC. Something that would be interesting to play, bound to whoever summoned it. Such as a succubus or a erinyes. But with class levels too. So it could help them out in battle if force to do so. So not a bad idea! ^^
If Vecna gave this vision it could be the Eye or Hand of Vecna. You could also make a custom Artifact for this. Perhaps it's a phylactery that can be used to suck the souls out of the dead, which then gives Vecna power/knowledge.
It all depends on what Vecna's current objectives are and what his relations are to the players are.

Another player (which switched characters) already had the hand. And the rogue has the eye. So Vecna can only speak with few words, therefore he uses the eye to give him visions. But a phylactery is a good idea! Something that if attuned to heals the wielder whenever a living humanoid creature is killed. That's also really good! ^^
Go pulp fiction--it's a soul. Who's soul? Vecna's? The soul of some average dude out in the world who has been alive for 300 years because his soul has been locked away and he can't die? The son of an arch fiend, his soul was locked away to keep him forever right between good and evil. If he gets his soul back, he finally gets to choose...
If you want the box to be another step on the quest, have it contain a map or directions to a secret location where the rest of Vecna's body is hidden. Or maybe a magic artifact that is a compass pointing in the direction of something powerful.
I was thinking about it being a portal to a demiplanar dungeon with some loot, maybe some plot-advancing things, and definitely some more loot. Just some suggestions. Happy DMing!

Good idea! They have to go kill Zariel so perhaps some devil's soul who worked for her and will help them if they help the soul get Zariel's station. Mhmm! Something sparked! Thanks! ^^

I like that idea a lot. Literal deal with the devil. I would love that game as a player. :D

I'm glad! They found a bronze flask, pretty much an iron flask but a one time use. A dijinni or whatever the blue wish masters are called was inside it. So one of my players wished for the power of a demi god and instead of being a dick and turning him down I gave him the option to make a deal. Kill Zariel and they get the powers of a demi god. The guy who made the deal thinks he fooled the others, he did because they didn't make the deal. But we play it of as they get the power too. But none of them were paying attention during it so.... xD But the Blue wish man is clever enough to know that they aren't even close to fighting her. So he is around the world creation chaos making deals and prepping. Even telling Zariel, then I'm going to have Zariel say a lie with a truth. That the blue wish maker is toying with them, they have no chance and should fight him instead. Etc, and she wants to make a deal with them that they get to serve her with power to kill a demi god if they just prove themselves worthy but killing the Dijinni. But it's a win/win for her if they take the deal. They do kill him, she gets them bound to her service. They die, they aren't worthy. So what they haven't discovered yet is that they are being toyed with. Which I quite enjoy.

Stuck between warring superpowers. Well played :)
Thank you! ^^ Very proud of it.

Looking for new subclasses, spells, magic items, feats, and races? Opinions welcome :)
