Howdy! I am a new DM in need of some assistance with a new campaign that I am starting. I already have some basic ideas for the world, but I have no idea how to organize them. How have you organized your campaigns in the past? Are there any helpful sites that I should be using? Anything helps!
I keep my information digitally, but the same process works for a paper binders:
1) folder with the campaign
2) subfolder with locations/settings
3) subfolder with npcs / villains / prominent figures
4) subfolder with main session notes
5) subfolder with story ideas/situation ideas /some possible encounters

"An' things ha' come to a pretty pass, ye ken, if people are going to leave stuff like that aroound where innocent people could accidentally smash the door doon and lever the bars aside and take the big chain off'f the cupboard and pick the lock and drink it!"
I personally started with a continent map on Inkarnate - I'm pretty visual so I need to have a picture of the setting first. Then I thought about the major civilizations I wanted to have as part of that world - who the big players are, what the major locations and landmarks are.
After that it was a case of putting together a document on each of the major nations, their leadership, their defining features. This I treated like a Project Management exercise, so there's plenty of tools out there if you look. I particularly like doing a '5 Whys' exercise to bottom-out the logic of why each nation/leader/faction behaves the way it does. That can then help you understand how they fit in and interact.
The alternative way of constructing your campaign is to do the reverse - Matt Colville has a great set of videos on Youtube talking about this; you start with the first village/dungeon and slowly build and expand outward from there. It's down to preference, really.
I use the Quip app. It allows me to have folders, docs, download images & such. There is a place to have a chat forum plus a variety of other options. Its a simple app that all can add & then can access what you want.
